Xin SuperMicro-IV VS RSA Tomahawk Impressions

gotta say I'm quite surprised - for a portable device i would;ve thought that the batteyr life and build of the TH would sway you despite the SMIV sound quality.

I can't wait until i get my SM4LE now!

My loyalty only lies with ETYMOTIC, don't be surprised if in a few months down the road I replace my SMIV with something else. For now I am convinced SMIV is the perfect partner for ER-4S, But if an RSA SR-71, HeadAmp AE-2 or Larocco PR2MKII can do a better job with ER-4S than SMIV, I will use them.

Now over 60 hours, SMIV Soundstage is phenomenal, and the tonality is liquid as glazed marble.....

keep us updated, I'm looking forward to your search for the perfect partner to the ER-4S! Are you also going to purchase the supermacro? The bass boost and crossfeed might be perfect for the etymotic!

Yes, the bass boost is perfect for the ER•4, just enough for when you're outside or in a moving vehicle. I only like crossfeed on some recordings (solo piano comes to mind), but it sure is nice to have.

Yes, SuperMacro-LE is surely on my list now. Dr Xin claims of Tubelike experience from his IV lineage does sound like tubes. The possibility of tweaking, tweaking and tweaking for that perfect synergy offered by SuperMacro is very enticing.

We shall see how

I dont know if you're keeping up with the AE-2 thread, but GreatDane just replaced his Supermini with the AE-2 as his main ER-4P amp. I would lend you my supermacro LE for you to try but you being in Singapore doesnt really help!

another amp to buy?

Yeah that AE-2 threads are frightening.....to my wallet. My ER-4S is calling and calling for it

But it is safe to say I am VERY happy with my SuperMicro-IV now and surely SMIV will be keepers. I just need something to tweak and only bigger amps provide that.

Thanks for the offer, I am in Malaysia BTW. But likely in July I will be flying over to Seattle.

That would be half-charged NiMH.

Heh....now that we are talking. I am running Sanyo Eneloop 800 mAh on my SuperMicro-IV now. Superb battery, out of the box can be used straight away.

Dr Xin have a reason to recommend this battery. One of them is the sublime tonality to the sound (very soothing) which I like very much as well. But if you are the type who like bolder presentation, Alkalines will do the job.
