Xiaomi Pistons 3.0 Impressions Thread
Dec 21, 2017 at 11:04 AM Post #976 of 992
Hey guys, I'm in the market for <$30 (AUD) earphones and these were recommended to me, so I looked into it.

Just wondering, due to their age, have there been a newer model released in the same price point?

Are these still considered quite good ? or have another pair/company released something better around same price point ?

and important Question, where is the current go-to place to purchase legit (non-fake) versions ? One thing I'm a little hesitant on is due to their origin, I'm worried I'd get a fake pair :/

My style of music I prefer to listen to are mostly (classic) rock, & a little random tunes, whatever's popular or decent (mixed genre)... are these ok for this style (I'm not an Audiophile, so have little to no experience on this subject)

image.jpeg There is a pretty good chance you will never find the original ones for sale. They were made in batches and have sold out. Last year a couple showed up at Gearbest but those are gone.

The same ergonomics and 3X better sound can be found with the Triple Driver. I know it's way more money but they are fantastic and not fake.

Even I purchased a set of fake Piston 3s before, they are everywhere.

Hey Red, thanks for the reply :)

That's a shame about the Piston 3's, they seemed to have good feedback on them :frowning2:. I looked at the '1MORE Triple driver' earphones you linked, but unfortunately way out of what I can afford ($100USD + Shipping, if they even shipped here). :/ .

Wonder if the original "where to buy" list from OP is still good. Gearbest seem to still have them https://www.gearbest.com/earphones/pp_169225.html . The list says Gearbest sells the 'Legit' version, but me personally, have always though Gearbest was just like dealextreme or Aliexpress, who would sell many fake items ??

People have purchased legit ones from Gearbest. The Triple Drivers were $50 for the last 2 days on Amazon. So they may go on sale again. They were $50 at Cosco when first introduced. You may find them at a special price. The Piston 3s are simply really hard to find now. I would maybe put an add up in the “For Sale” section of Head-Fi as there could be a member which purchased a couple pairs, but doesn’t want them anymore. I purchased a back-up pair.

It’s just that nowadays it seems all that’s around are fake ones. Really good fakes too! Another option could be going on https://penonaudio.com/index.php?route=product/search&search=Piston and finding the Piston2s.

Hey LeWidget,
I would have to agree with Red. I bought a pair of pistons about a year ago on headfi and when I looked elsewhere couldn't find any real ones. I've looked on and off for a while because I've wanted to give them as presents etc but yeah, difficult to find, the market is flooded with fakes

Dealextreme + Aliexpress are all marketplaces full of random sellers. Gearbest is a single retailer who has a great reputation over many years.

No idea why you consider them the same, but everyone is welcome to his opinion.

If you don't trust gearbest or other well known regarded retailers, then probably your only option is to buy directly from Xiaomi.

Has anyone noted these look almost identical to the to Beoplay H3? Looks like same nozzle, just instead of laser drilled vents it is just one large circular vent on the Piston. Kind of scared to even try one of these to discover they might sound the same as my H3, lol

Wow, does look like the factory has some left over!

Hey, sorry for lack of reply :/, but thanks to all for the feedback :)

Sorry, just assumed they were the same. Might check them out, see what's on there. :)

I had a look, though couldn't figure out how to buy (if you could). I asked Xiaomi, but they never got back to me :frowning2:

I'll have to keep an eye out on the marketplace in the forums, see if anyone's selling. Though, in the mean time, are there any other alternatives to these Piston 3's, around the same price, or at least under $30AUD ($40USD) ?

Thanks again :)

Thanks for the suggestion. But are those much better than the Piston 3? They cost more than 3 times more, are they 3 times better in terms of sound quality?
Cheers

3x more? I thought they were more like 3x less in price. Mine set me back about $7.80AUD per pair. Didn't the Piston 3's sell for like $15USD ($25AUD) a pair ?
