Connected today from my desktop DAC/AMP Sabaj D5 with XLR->4.4mm balanced cable to 4.4 INPUT of XD05PRO, working perfectly, very good sound. Intersting, which part of XD05PRO is active when playing music this way (DAC? AMP? or both DAC and AMP?) ?
Installed the Sparkos 3602 yesterday, no mods needed though it's a tight fit. I used the socket adapters to raise them up a tad.
Hard to do a a/b compare before/after but upper mids seemed to smoothen out and bass was tighter? Or I am just imagining things with wishing it were so!
Either way was a fantastic listen from the Shanling M6U 4.4 out to the XD05 and into a set of THOR Mjölir MKii
Please tell me if it matters what DAP you connect as a source to xD05? As I understand, you connect with this orange cable from the Xduoo set USB-C(M6U)<-->USB-C(Xd05).
1/ A digital signal from M6U is given from the DAC system based on AKM, so it is playing like AKM?
2/ Does the signal enter to DAC Xd05 (ESS,ROHM) or skip it and enters to the power output in Xd05 (OP-AMP)
3/ If I connected another DAP (based on e.g. ESS Sabre chip) would be different playing (on Xd05)?

Hello Ben86:
the xduoo will work as AMP "only" in that case having the input set using the XLR connection with the Sabaj D5 (is your DAC). Do you have to set a switch on the Sabaj, when using it as DAC only?
I have a similar setup with the Questyle CMA twelve as DAC (set the switch to DAC, see in the photo circled in red).
I am very interested in that xduoo, but while reading through literaly half the posts it seems the power could be a "challange". I am also waiting for more reviews and the additional modules (R2R and AK DAC Chip) and play around with those. will be really fun to experiment.

This is not entirely true, you simply need to use a 12V power supply, not a charger (although you can also use a charger, it has been described on the forum), because it works without a problem with the power supply. The confusion stems from unclear user manual. That's all.

Mine works perfectly on a 65w USB charger and sounds great. No point chasing butterflies unless you do that to your gear. All the power to thoose who do, for me I just enjoy the music.
I love mine , I am guilty of trying to squeeze more out as well with the Sparkos Op Amps. But I love the very clean and precise presentation of the ESS DAC and have my AKM stacks so I feel blessed to be able to choose depending on what sound signature I am looking for.
The XD05 PRO was a great purchase I feel.
