XDuoo XD-05 Portable Dac/Amp Introduction - Impressions

Actually it's not about the drive, but the slight lack of details you get with inefficient low impedance planars.
Actually, that's what I meant - I hear a lot of details with my HE400 and XD-05. It is by far the best portable amp I tried for HE400 (and HE500 but I don't use them often with XD-05). I usually use it as a DAC/amp, sometimes as an amp only with another DAC.

Yeah, I have recently discovered that the XDuoo is not so good for planars. HEXv2, HE560, and LCD-2 all sounded pretty bad from it. I noticed the output impedance is fairly high (8 ohms). Not sure if that's part of it.

The DAC is partly to blame. Using the line-in from a Bifrost, the planar situation vastly improved, but there's still a gray background of some sort. Your theory about what's going on is interesting. I think that the power management of the XDuoo just doesn't cut it for orthos. However, if you stick to dynamic headphones, it will be fine. HD650 and TH-900 sounded alright.
It's the output stage. Some extra bypassing at BUF634 supply pins really brings out the best of XD-05

I found that better opamps have higher demands from the output stage.

With OPA2209 and BUF634 (with ceramic bypass caps) the improvements are pretty significant.

For me personally,I prefer OPA2209

I'm using OPA2209 as well and i do like the sound of it better than the stock one xduoo comes with.
I am interested in the ceramic bypass cap mod. Can you please give us more info? Where do you put it? Pins and maybe a picture if it's not to much for you.
Thanks for the shared info.

Not sure... saw it somewhere in the thread. My apologies, that appears to be wrong. I've found a source that says it's 0.62 ohms.

What effect would a different op-amp have on that though? I noticed the Burson Conductor Air, which uses the same V5i, has an output impedance of 3 ohms. Not sure if that's relevant.

Pins 4 & 7 of BUF634, can't post picture as of now but it's pretty simple. Just ensure capacitors are positioned such that you can easily fit it back into the chassis and it's pins do not touch any other pads

Sounds great with my 1060s but with everything on windows maxed out gain 1 and 2 leave a little to be desired.

Hi guys! I just ordered the XDuoo and the OPA2209; my DAPS are a Shanling M2s and an iBasso DX50, my question is about connecting these dispositives to the XDuoo. The iBasso has coaxial output, so could somebody an appropiate cable to connect the XDuoo? On the other side, if I only want to use the amp section of XDuoo, I need to join to the Shanling throw the 3,5 mm jack, but if I would like to use it only as "music transport", using the DAC of the XDuoo, I'll need to connect them via OTG Usb, won't it?

Thank you in advance, my friends. Have a great day!
