That's nice. I wonder why their rep told me "usually only 3 months" then. I couldn't find anything about warranty on their product page.

That 3 month business is just plain weird or incompetent.  The warranty card included with the X3 is what I'm referring to that states one year.

That's right, it is! But Colorfly C3 is at 49,99 right now on Massdrop. So decided to take the plunge for C3 right now and once I get to spend some time listening to it, then I might start looking for a dap again.

Eh?  Rockbox builds on the factory OI so why would it kill DSD?  Or not use the hardware architecture?
 
If you mean DAC access, that's a hardware deal not implemented in the X3 so Rockbox has nothing to do with it.

Good idea. I was also considering C3 seriously and read the thread & reviews and they were all positive . Many people said that it has great sound quality. I chose X3 because I needed higher storage capacity to store all my musics and 64GB is not enough for me and do not want to switch SD cards and I have some HD Flac files (24 bits) and C3 does not play 24bit Flac but play 16 bit Flac only as far as I understand (not 100% sure). And I wanted good old tactile button instead. Love to hear your impression when you get C3.

Which leads me to a question: does anybody know if the X3's line out is only 100% maxed hp out, or is it a separate dedicated line out with high impedance (typically 10kohm)?
Also has anyone checked battery life on X3, hp out vs line out?

Sure! X3 has a fixed line out while C3 has only headphone out. X3 has way more powerful amp than the C3. X3 can play hi-res songs and DSD while C3 can only play 16bit/48khz flac and 24bit/48khz WAV. There are 2 SD card slots in X3 and only 1 in C3.

Lastly C3 sounds a bit digital compared to X3. Hope this helps!

If you mean DAC access, that's a hardware deal not implemented in the X3 so Rockbox has nothing to do with it. 

Would be nice if Rockbox could sort of "unlock" DAC mode.

Interesting when will be released new firmware ? Remember that the support wrote that will release a new firmware after the new year , Chinese new year . So it's now been 3 weeks and no firmware . I only hope RB to be honest .
 
PS by the way you don't read Russian forum and don't know what we're modifying the player a better amplifier , replaceable LMH 6643 on AD8397 . I have the option been used for two months , in the end, the sound becomes even better , treble is more clean and clear , the bass more toned and bodily , when modifying the background noise disappears , it is absolutely inaudible even at full volume . So I recommend to do this modification to variables .

TwinACStacks has several FiiO DAPs plus the xDuoo X3.  Here's a recent quote: http://www.head-fi.org/t/796505/musicmaker-tk12-hck-a2-appreciation-impressions-thread-dual-ba-and-dd-hybrid/345#post_12379391 .   Elsewhere he did post some comments about the Fiio "house sound" compared to the X3 too.  Just don't remeber where.  Bottomline is that he much prefers the xDuoo.
