Hi guys, I just bought the XDuoo X3 this morning from HCK for $80 at Aliexpress. For someone want to get one, before you ask HCK for the discount, you should sign up for the Alipay to get $8 coupon. After that, you will get the link from HCK to buy it at $88, use your cellphone to order the XDuoo X3 and the $8 coupon will automatically apply to the order. The total will come out to $80

.

I'm really new here and the XDuoo X3 is my most expensive DAP I bought. How does it compare to the Rockboxed Clip Zip? Do I need anything else to go with the X3?
Also, I have the Phillips Fidelio X2, Puro Sound IEM500, M50x, and the Xiaomi Hybrid IEM, are they great with X3?

Thank you :)

How did you find a xDuoo X3 for $80?

All I see are app only.. $99...

First, you have to add a X3 to the cart from the seller named HCK in aliexpress.

You can see the name HCK from the picture.
Then, use laptop or desktop to chat with the seller, ask them for the discount for Head-Fi members. The app from phone won't let me chat with them. They'll ask you to give them the order number by placing the order without going to the last page to complete.
After that, they sent you an email with the discount link to pay $88. Before you pay $88, sign up for the Alipay first to get $8 off. Click "Get the coupon now" after you signed up. If the coupon are all out, try again on the beginning of the next hour.

The offer ends on Apr 2.
Then go back to your link and pay using the app, now you should see $80.

Good luck!

Can anyone confirm if you've experienced this?

Transferring audio files when the micro sd card is inserted with the x3 duoo only yields 1-3mbps write speeds.. While using a card reader yields 8-10mbps write speeds to the micro sd card..

Same here. Transferring speed is quite low on micro SD card.

I love mine. I might get a backup

You still need to peel that ugly factory screen protector off and use a Brando Workshop one that is cut down to proper size.  My old Palm TX protectors easily give me a pair suitable for use with the X3.  No bubbles, thicker material, removable and washable too.

I've already done away with the god-awful ones it comes with and cut the proper size from a cover for a smartphone I no longer have, actually. highly recommended for everyone to do, although the stock ones do the bare minimum of the job, although it's crazy how much dust sticks to them!

BTW, a bit disheartening but I email Xduoo support for their word on the slow copy & USB disconnection issues, they suggested to me I use a card reader instead. So there you have it, even they say just use a card reader.

Glad to hear you've addressed the screen protector issue succesfully.

Folks have asked about whether the Rockbox port increases battery life.  I had been using the LSE1 theme but have replaced it with the LSE5 one. The former gives battery level as a percentage.  The later in hours and minutes.  But apparently it requires a full usage and then a recharge to set this type of remaining battery life indicator properly.  I'm currently at just over 9 hours run time (System > Running Time) with the battery icon still showing 2 bars (along with the ubiquitous "?h ?m").  This with Line Out set to max (0 dB) feeding my NX1/Philips SHP9500.  We'll see how much longer I get until it shuts down.  The factory setup says >10 hours.  I got right around that when first using my X3.

As much as I didn't bond with my X2, this X3 +Rockbox is drawing me in. Tried to see about order thru A.E. and that seller per above comments but seller is offline, so no way to claim headfi membership.

Is there a link to the how to to load RB onto the X3?

Searching would give you a ton of Rockbox posts, but you'd have to sort through them, so....

We really do need a separate Rockbox xDuoo X3 thread

At 10 hours and 45 minutes my X3 run in Rockbox mode finally shut down.  It's now on the AC wall wart charger in xDuoo v1.1 mode.

So as far as battery life under Rockbox goes... it's as good as if not a tiny bit better than the stock firmware.  Realistically too close to call though.
BTW I did set the Rockbox battery setting to 1500 mAh

We'll see if the "?h ?m" battery display in the LSE5 theme gets fixed after the charge....

Thanks Bob! Although I'd already found the needed files, I'm still not sure how to actually install them on the player. I'm assuming both bootloader & OS need to be installed, as with any other & also assume that the RB utility app doesn't work for the X3?
& yes, we DO need a X3/Rockbox thread here.
Just ordered mine thru penon, not as cheap as on ali, but have had good experience w/ penon, am happy & excited to get a new DAP
OK, duh found installing info on vortex rockbox site

Best bet is to use a properly formatted FAT32 (4096 bytes/sector) mSD card and use the factory upgrade process with the rockbox files indicated on Xvortex's site.  Should take just a couple of minutes to be up and running.
