Has anyone tried the Gryphon as a DAC only, feeding into a separate desktop amplifier?

I don’t yet have the right cables (3.5 to RCA or 4.4 to XLR) to connect Gryphon to a separate amp, but I am hoping to try it with some hard to drive planars.

Would love to feed it with some upsampled HQplayer stream as well and truly maximize what this DAC can offer.

Actually on my MacBook Pro the mute button doesn't work too on the keyboard, my music is still playing when I hit the mute button.

Can we get confirmation of the OI on the 4.4mm and 3.5mm iEMatch? @Sebastien Chiu @iFi audio
I could be wrong but a couple of posts back, I remeber reading about the Gryphon's IEMatch having the same design/implementation as the newly released 4.4mm IEMatch.

If true, then it has ~8 Ohm OI on 3.5 setting (a.k.a. High Sensitivity) & ~3.5 Ohm OI on 4.4 setting (Ultra Sensitivity)

Do you guys experience the gryphon turning off when the battery indicator still seems to have about a quarter of battery life left? Quarter might be exaggeration but at least 1/5th of it left.

No. But when the battery is low, there is a "Low battery" text on the OLED screen, without any audible warning. @Sebastien Chiu do ifi consider adding a low battery warning tone in future firmware? Because the user doesn't always look at the screen when they use the Gryphon

The battery meter and low battery warning are plenty. Please @Sebastien Chiu do not offer a warning tone unless it can be disabled. Simple is better. Do we want it to vibrate a warning too? No.

Please no warning tone. I have had several pairs of Bluetooth headsets that had warning tones and it basically means low power = very to enjoy the music.

Please don't blame everything on Microsoft. Sure Windows 11 has it problem, but I own a Fiio DAC with use a similar driver as IFI (maybe their customized XMOS driver?)

And it works fine. The mute feature work as intended.

While with the Gryphon using ifi's driver, mute won't work

I don't know if you guy using the same versioning number from the manufacturer or not, but the Fiio driver is 5.22, while the ifi driver is 5.12

In regards to my comment on Windows 11, I am reflecting on what I was told by my team asking this in the past. I would be happy to ask again for you, however!

We do not use the same drivers as FiiO - it is entirely different tech, internally, and the similar numbers are just a coinceidence.

It is not even Windows 11 problem. The mute function does not work on my Windows 10 with ifi driver 5.12

Thanks, it is noted and I will look into this for you both!

So it’s low - off - high? Can we get a final answer? The 4.4mm option definitely effects the 3.5mm jack.

The 4.4mm implementation is indeed the same as the newly released standalone unit, as it is for the 3.5mm.

No, it is technically not low, off, and high. They are designed to match the different power outputs of 3.5mm and 4.4mm.

That said, you are able to use both on each other output. It is an option that is there for you.

Thanks for the feedback - we always weigh both sides of the discussion before making a suggested change a reality in a future firmware update, and appreciate the feedback in posts like these from you two!

My old space grey iPod Touch is the same color and length as the Gryphon. So slim that stacking them together makes for the perfect DAP for my Qobuz streaming.

Great set-up! Little bit of the past, present, and future all in one!

Yes, using balanced 4.4mm line out to power amp to drive my near-field speakers or 3.5mm line out to Milo amp, just in case I need to listen to Tidal (MQA).
