Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.

If any of you guys who have HD540II flattened (useless) velour pads that you don't want, I'm happy to take them off your hands if I just have to pay you postage cost. Alternatively, I can renew your velour pads for you if you would like to get their performance back. Just an idea, but seeing as my petition has only got 13 replies (unlucky eh...), we're clearly on our own with regard to spare parts... Never mind, I'll make them great again without Sennheiser's help. Just gotta be smart with basic materials.

I wish there was more interest in the HD 540 Reference I and Reference II in the USA.
Spare parts and the headphones themselves are NEXT to impossible to obtain here.
With good restored ear pads, a good source and headphone amp, these headphones are seriously hard to match, and let alone beat, in timbre, coherence, and resolution!
My fellow americans don't know what they are missing out on...
Come on everyone, lets help o0CosmoMemory0o out here, he is doing an impressive job, and reviving a true classic headphone!

I cut out a couple of new foams tonight from my stock and I sewed up one of the earpads carefully along the seam that I originally detached. I will sew up the other pad tomorrow. The velour skin is dark black and looks like new; smells like new too after I washed out any odour. I'm really pleased with the quality of the finish; looks good. Might put up some pictures tomorrow. The more I do, the faster I will get and the better quality of finish I should achieve.

That HD224x almost looks like a low-end model. Don't judge a book by it's cover, I guess.

Also, Cosmo, that's some excellent polishing. Could you fly to the Netherlands? I have some HD600s which need to be patched up lol.

I read from a Chinese forum recommended that original DT880 leather earpad is a good fit for HD540G, has anyone try that out before?

HD224X is more expensive than HD540
224x sound quality & timbre are more "serious" too
