I was wondering if speaker stands would improve my listening experience.  I am above the speakers when i sit down.  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Possibly. Speaker placement seems sort of a black art to me and it always requires some experimentation. Why don't you stack up books under the speakers to see if that helps? You could play with the height and, if you like the results, would know how high the speaker stands should be.

they look a bit like tannoy dc4?  but yes correct speaker placement is very important and changes based on the speaker, more important than any dac choice or amp, as their location to listener and in the room can fundamentally alter the sound a lot... that said just tilting them up should work great :P perhaps two wooden wedges, or bent metal, with rubber sheet stuck on both sides?

It's certainly worth a try.  When I first got my AV40s I had them right on my desk, then I built some stand to get them up higher and angle up a bit towards my ears and the difference (particularly in imaging) was remarkable.

Try RadioShack, chances are you'll find what your looking for. If you were in the UK, I would have advised you to check out Maplin as I buy most of my stuff from there. They have lot's of useful stuff, especially cables etc. Good luck!

I've heard/read that you'd get the most benefit from your speakers if they are at ear level. Here are some stands. They'd raise your speakers up 12 inches. Here are some wedges, if you're a tall person. Or if 12 inches is just a bit much for ear level, you could turn them around, and have your speakers tilt down a bit.
