Huh? exactly where is the shock tactic? First of all, few people even know the reference. Second, its supposed to symbolize Jewish sacrifice which hardly seems tasteless to me. Especially from a Jew.

Death Cab is a bad band name, but it gets a free pass because it is a reference to the Beatles move 'Magical Mystery Tour"

I haven't posted in a long time, but I had to post to this thread, so that I could second "Hoobastank." That name makes me cringe. I can even stomach "Limp Bizkit" and "Korn", but Hoobstank absolutely takes the cake for me. And the music...blah...

Ok, I'm going to say it (even though they're one of my favorite bands)

The Flower Kings.

Sometimes I don't want to tell my friends what I'm listening to because it sounds so lame.

I still love them.

a lot of the 'progressive metal' band names are pretty ridiculous sounding imo. as if they were sitting together and trying to figure out how to sound as pseudo-intellectual as possible.

examples:

frantic bleep
freak kitchen
bubblemath
behold...the arctopus (yes they have the ... in their name)
spastic ink
coprofago (this means 'eat crap' or something in latin)

not saying anything about the music...just that the names are terrible.
