Looks like the old 400 (which I own and love) for 169.00 I would just throw my money at them. I use the 350 everyday at work (even posted a ugly fix job after I broke them in my backpack); yes other folks can here them, but not as much bleed as the 400 and I listen to good music .
Looks like the old HE400 yeah, but those measurements actually look more like the HE400S has, right? With the bass rolloff and that bit of extra energy around 7k..
I want to know how they compare to the M1060. One guy on Massdrop who owns both the 400i and 1060 says the 1060 blows the 400i out of the water. Now at $169, they will be a great buy even if they sound like the 400i or 400s, but I want them to compete with the 1060, otherwise my first pair of planar's will be the 1060.
I would get the 1060 then. The 4XX will be a great value even with it tuned towards the 400S, but between build quality, comfort, and what I assume is superior sound quality, the 1060 is still well worth the $300. Also, the 4XX isn't likely to ship until December, whereas the 1060 is in stock and ready to ship immediately.
I would say these are probably HE400i drivers, not the HE400S. Ignoring the bass roll-off, the frequency response appears to much more closely match the peaks and troughs of the HE400i - the less bass is probably due to the lack of backplate. on the newer versions of the HE400i drivers.
Also the sensitivity and impedance are exactly the same as the HE400i. My guess is that they had a whole bunch of extra HE400 headbands and Focus A pads they couldn't get rid of - so they made this instead.
Yeah, now that others and Tyll have been able to measure it, the graphs align very closely to the 400i. Jude's measurements, which is on display for the drop, has massive bass roll off just like the 400S. Who knows what's up with his graph.
I joined the drop also, talk to one of the lucky ones that reviewed it and they mentioned it sound a lot like the 400i than the 400/400s.They were making a strong comparison with the HD 600 which itself is a strong endorsement of the 4XX.If it is 90% as good as the HD 600 with better bass I be happy.
Finished modding my HE-350 and very happy with results.
1) Removed paper sticker covering the center hole in the magnet.
2) Put on Brainwayz pleather pads.
3) Swapped for Monolith Pink cable.
Sounds completely different than stock. Much bassier and darker, while still maintaining open, clean, quick decay, spacey sound with above average soundstage. Some treble sparkle remains as well. Treble cleanliness definitely took a hit but these are much more well-rounded now.
For example, can actually enjoy listening to old-school hip-hop on these now, something that was impossible with stock sound.
