There is no “5A4A” listed in the Electron Tube Data Sheets (frank.pocnet.net) … 🤔

Was there an accompanying data sheet? How do you know if ‘5A4A’ is compatible with WA33? …. 🔥 …. 😳 …. 🤬

ok guys.... I have had a bunch more time to AB the 33E and the 23..... I also took the 23 to my desk and listened to that exclusively for the last few day... I also put the much better KRs and WEs in the 23... and tested on the Dave/mu1 stack and direct from a hugo2go....

1st.... the 23 is defo one of the best amps in the world and I may not sell it and use it as my desktop rig.... however... after listening to it exclusive and then going back to the mu1 faradDave stack with the wa33... there is really no contest.... wa33 on this stack is simply more holographic... thicker... more air around everything... it is immediately obvious... just more organic overall. I really think there is some synergy magic going on with mU1, farad Dave and wa33e with upgraded kr and WE tubes.... its f'n special.

this case is officially closed.

Elrog 5u4g.
such a great rectifier on the wa33. a bit of a pity there are some unanswered (?) questions on the compatibility.

love the realism and the sense of "being there". super clear and transparent sounding. makes the tak274b feel a bit slow and thick in comparison. Elrog has a nice clean background and music seems to come from nothingness.

Would recommend having both tak274b and Elrog 5u4g in the arsenal, assuming you're willing to take the risk of the wa33 wrecking the recs.
anyone compare the KR 274B with the Elrog 5u4g????? thinking of trying the Elrog... is the difference significant?

Neither Elrog nor Woo recommend the use of the ER5U4G in the WA33. My ER5U4g is in the process of destroying itself. Elrog has already denied my warranty claim and will not cover any claims related to a Woo WA33. Of all the rectifiers I have used the KR 274B ranks a rather bland 3rd behind the Elrog and the #1 Tak 274B. It does not have the fullness and punch of the other two. I would rate it just a tad better than a USAF 596.

can you notice a definite lift from the KR to the TAK 274b?

Notice my use of the word "bland". The Tak is the best of all rectifiers. I wish they lasted longer. I have a new Tak waiting in the wings when the Elrog finally blows up. This will be my 3rd Tak. The first two lasted 13 and 15 months respectively. At least for my WA33 it seems to be more a case of renting them rather than a long term purchase.

I swapped back to tak274b a few days ago and it is a nice change in pace. I've had it since wa22 days and it is still going strong! do you use your gear with a power block/conditioner?

I have a PS Audio Stellar P3 regenerator. dCS does not recommend the use of a power regenerator but i have had no issues. I still am trying to talk myself into trying the Puritan PSM 156.
