here's a pic to distinguish between the large base tubes:
from left to right: large base black, large base brown, standard black base

note: all three are late 50's early 60's unit made in england. you can tell by
the presence of the double-lined shield enblem.

one other very important point about large base gz34's...not every large base that you see in auctions are the real stuff...the cheap sovtek gz34's also have large black base and some seller wipe the glass tube clean to make it look like mullard's large base tubes of the late 50's and early 60's...the ultron/haltron are sovteks repackaged...

if you must have a large base, buy from a reputable dealer...there several good dealers in the united kingdom that still have hundreds of these units in used conditions available...very few in new condition...
