Wired Article Claims "Burn In" period for headphones "a bunch of hokum"

The article is mainly against burning in earphones because the drivers are much smaller and less room for change from burn-in. As quoted in article:

"This much is known: When it comes to the tiny balanced armatures used in many earphones, there’s just not the same potential for mechanical deviation. We’re talking about things the size of a baby’s tooth. And unlike the large drivers in over-the-ear headphones, there’s just not that much room for things to change."

You should probably edit your title to reflect such, and perhaps even move this to the portables forum.

No, in my opinion Wired is right. The burn-in is a real phenomena with some loudspeaker and headphone drivers. However 99% of people won't hear any difference. Now when there is a global boom in headphone sales, Wired raises this concern rightfully in my opinion, because this if anything REALLY confuses the ordinary buyer.
