Hi!

As you know, the K501's are out of production. I have no idea how many of these cans are around.

Now I'm asking myself if the value of my K501 will rise, fall or be equal if I would try to sell it in the future.
There's only one K501 available on ebay Germany at the moment. It stands at €71 and still has 22hrs to go.

I'm asking because I wanted to try out another headphone by selling my K501's and re-investing in another model. A HD650 will remain a dream, though

Used headphones have only recently retained any value at all, and it seems that their prices are steadying. K501 are probably now fetching a bit more than the $100 they were selling for on clearance, but not much more, and I bet they'll stall at precisely that level for at least the next few years.

Indeed, and the fact of this really creases my pants.

Maybe some day they will become 'rare' and you can sell them to Fitz? Years off in the future.

eBay and the intertubes in general have done wonderful and cruel things to the practice of collecting anything at all.

Doubt it, since supply and demand applies. At least for the foreseeable future, there will be enough used ones (supply) to keep the price stable. I don't see any great increase in demand since the K501 was replaced by headphones that are better. That's my story and I'm sticking too it.

Depends on how far in the future you're looking. Within the next few years it's unlikely they'll appreciate significantly in value, in a decade or so, who knows?

Increase in value like the HF-1's or CD-3000's? Absolutely not. The K501's aren't a rare headphone and were pretty much replaced by the K601 and K701.

No. Let's speak no more of it.

Probably not, but it may be ridiculously difficult to find later. I'm in love with my K501s. I'm sure the K701 are also amazing cans, but I can't see myself parting with these....
