I have a Acer 5552g laptop and often bring with me, a sennheiser hd 555.

On my desktop PC running a audigy 2 ZS, the bass is pretty good but on the laptop, there is very little bass and adjusting EQ settings to get additional bass does not retain the clarity of the bass.

I was wondering if I got a Fiio e6, would it help with the bass issue and also can it be powered directly from USB instead of just charging it and relying on it's internal battery.

If not, then are there any decent low cost amps that can be used with a laptop without adding too much bulk?

The E6 charges over usb while running though I don't know if it bypasses the battery.  The multiple EQ settings (most of them are a little lacking though) could help with your bass woes.

I don't know if the E6 has enough juice to run the HD 555 to your liking since I pretty much exclusively use the E6 with a sansa clip/mini dumbphone and CIEMs, but it's a pretty great gadget for the price you're paying.
