Haven't been very active on this thread the wiim mini has been used on the patio. Been looking for a better quality streamer for the home system. Just noticed they announced the wiim pro so figured I add a link to it.

Been mentioned a few times already, and they posted that after pics were found on the wifi alliance website. Still no official details of the spec or a release date other than q4 ‘22

Nice to see they are stepping up in the output department, and the addition of ethernet is nice!

Cheers!!

Anyone stream Youtube audio via Bluetooth from their PC?

I can easily pair the WiiM with my PC, but it doesn't show up as a speaker to send the audio to. I've got a ticket in with WiiM support but thought I'd ask here too.

If I can get that working I can eliminate the USB-C plug from my chain, which I have to continually insert and remove from my Mojo if I want to use my headphones to listen to any PC audio other than music.

Info and announcement of the Pro was posted on Wiim site. Updated the thread title and added addition info on the pro.

If you're streaming to this from Tidal and have something connected to the aux in, what happens exactly? Does the wired input override the stream?

Well, I was able to resolve my issue. It was an EBCAC. :face_palm:

So now I don't need USB-C, which makes me extremely happy. I can stream any audio directly from my PC to the WiiM. I can even use the native Amazon PC app streaming via BT if I want, although it appears to down-sample Ultra-HD.

This has to be one of the best value tech purchases I've made in quite some time.

Why would you use BT as a transport for a UHD (or even HD) stream from the PC to the WiiM? it doesn’t have the bandwidth,

You can cast from the iOS or Android amazon music app to the WiiM, so you could perhaps consider using the latter under the Windows Subsystem for Android and cast lossless bit perfect streams up to 24/192 to the WiiM.

I'm not. It was just an experiment. I'm using the Android app through Windows Phone Link to stream to WiiM. The subsystem app isn't available in Japan yet.

I'm using BT for Youtube or other video content.

Ok, apologies. I’m in the U.K. and the Android subsystem isn’t officially available here either but I found some instructions on the web on how to implement it outside the USA , and use the Aurora store to install apps. Works very well

OK, I picked one up just to get an impression of it. For its price and what it does, it's an excellent device.

Compared with my laptop into Iris and Pontus, there's a fullness lacking with the WiiM Mini. Everything sounds just slightly hollow.

Considering my use case and that the Iris costs 5x the WiiM to get that I2S out, I think the WiiM is a no brainer and I intend to get the Pro version once its out.

But in the meantime, the Mini will go back.

One other thing to add. The WiiM is a better user experience for Spotify and Tidal than the iFi Zen Stream.

Maybe the Zen Stream is fine as a Roon endpoint, but at least for me, Tidal and Spotify integration were buggy and consistently lost connection, stuttered, disappeared as a Connect device, etc.

Sound was indeed more detailed on the Zen Stream with USB out, however.

Good observation msing539,

I think the key point to consider was that when the Mini was issued, it was not designed or really considered an audiophile piece of gear but when many started taking notice of it's potential, Wiim totally stepped up and did everything they could to get the most out of it; They've done an extremely good job doing that but probably can only do so much with the orig. hardware inside; the thing is tiny and only $89!

I suspect the Wiim Pro could be exponentially better than the Mini, since Wiim's management and engineers are now designing the Pro to cater to audiophiles unlike the Mini. I really wished the Pro would have I2S but at $175 retail, we can't expect perfection but hopefully there will be good enough components under the Pro's hood to send good high res jitter free 1's & 0's to an outboard DAC with a good user friendly interface. The one thing that's been impressing me the most compared to other streamers is Wiim's vigilant attack on their fixes and updates which quite frankly, no one else seems to doing at the same level. All of this can only be a win for the avg. Amazon shopper looking for a music streamer.

I would love to be able to diagnose these "buggy" issues, but there are so many variables from one network to another, sadly I think it's almost impossible. I for instance never had any of these issues with stuttering, and loss of connection, both with the Zen Stream, and as well for the Wiim, it just does not happen for me.

Perhaps it's all in what we run in our homes, Is it VPNs, security software, or our providers themselves? Way too many variables for one to have an issue and not another. I do know one thing, it seems on average there are way more issues with Tidal "Connect" than others. I am saying this because in "almost" every update summary for the streamers I have the words "Fixed various playback issues with Tidal" are usually somewhere in the notes, way more than Spotify, or Qobuz, issues. It sometimes leads me to seriously think this has more to do with "piracy" concerns over users who stream "Tidal" service than others. To be more precise it reminds me more of "HDMI Handshake issues" with video providers, and equipment than anything else.

For me, it was an issue of not caring for the sound of the Wiim, and a lack of a computer interface at the time, but they are working on that.

I completely agree! They have done a stellar job with fixes and updates, especially at the price point! I would also love to see the I2S if it is possible I'm sure, as I am staring at my Leaf Audio CMD-23 DAC that jas an absolute ton of Inputs including that option, and at under 200 USD it certainly is do-able.

I am happy to keep following the progress of this and the Pro, and anxiously await that Roon update if it is still coming!

Cheers!!
