I already have the k240s and k501and DT440.
I use them unamped sometimes and some others i use them through a Cary 300sei.

I was wondering to go to k240m or k240DF or maybe ..k601 ?

How do they compare ?

My vote for K240DF. If you dig their neutrality no other headphone would sound right to you.

Cary 300sei? Have you thought about the K-1000? I think you'd find them the best AKG of all. If not, the K-240DF is a fine choice.

I'd rate DF on par with K501, but it's different. It's colder. Not as smooth. Headstage is also different. Bass extends more but is less prominent - I call it "uncorrected" - there is about as much bass as would naturally reach your ear. Regretfully, words can't explain "neutrality" well. Nevertheless, listening to K501 may be a better pleasure. That's why I sold my DF - I didn't listen much to it and I'm not a collector - I use a pair for a purpose.

My vote is for the K500. It's close to the K501 but I like it better. Bit more bass, bit more involving.
