If you don't like them then return them, if you let people talk you into this burn in crap then you will be stuck with them, and they will not change enough to make a sizable difference.

IME the recommended break-in is necessary for the K701(2). The most changes occur in the first 50 hours, but they will continue to mature. So please don't rush to judgment.

I bought a pair of Beyer DT770Pro/80ohm because I wanted a companion headphone for my K701's with a lot of bass. Those Beyer's have the bass but I almost never listen to them in favor of my AKG's. Bass is not everything and I've come to appreciate the quality of bass that my K701's have.

That is because you bought a pair with poor bass. If you want to see what good bass can do try some DX 1000 if you feel brave (a bit like reversed K701s) or some PRO 900 which you can get quite bright by KeeS modding them.
Or of course a transducer

But particularly a DX 1000 would be a superb complement. Now my KeeS modded PRO 900 fills the K701 slot for me but if I had to pick two headphones currently would be DX 1000 PRO 900.

If I was stripped on cash 650/701. Oddly that they are seen as competitors complement eachother quite well too.

Did you ever consider the fact that K70X bass is just good, and maybe the PRO900 bass is too aggressive with a big boost??

K701 is good there is just to little of it. KeeS mod is to fix the bass boost

for every headphone there is a group who says it sucks and a group who says it's great. I love my K701, and if you don't it's fine. Steve Hoffman loves his too, but his ears might be bad

I think in this thread I said that I was willing to give the K701 a chance when I got the WooAudio6. Well, I got the WA6 today, and the K701 still sucks to me. I'm fine if others like it, but to me it is inferior to the K501 and the HD650.

I love the sound of my AKG 701s paired with the KICAS Caliente it brings some warmth to the AKGs and the bass is just right in my opinion. My next step will be to have them reterminated with balanced connectors for use with my balanced amp and I hope to see the same increase in sound quality as I had with the HD650s.

my K702 came in the mail today, I can feel that it still needs a little burn in, but I haven't doubted it for a second

What makes you feel it needs to be burned in?
