Why put the equipment at the front?

If premium speaker cables are used, there is ususally an interest in keeping them short and uniform (especially for cost purposes!). It is true that placing anything between the speakers and at or forward of the plane of their frong baffle will interfere with imaging and dispersion.

True, but as close as possible.
I wouldn't want to run my rather thick speaker cables front-to-back through my room.

What, is it important to keep the speaker cables short or something? I figured in any reasonable sized room, running speaker cables to the front would be insignificant. And what's two speaker cables, anyway?

Would you really want to spend upwards of 5-10k (or more!) to run ten extra feet of cable just so you can hide your equipment?

No, and I would also never spend more than a few dollars a foot on speaker cable.

I like to listen in the dark and having to watch half a dozen LED front panels is very distracting.

Some amps and preamps need short runs because of capacitance. Long runs cause rolled off highs.

Oh yeah... every homosexual I've ever encountered wears one of those.
