Well I don't believe it but little hits of significance on the K71. Also interested in the K26P but comparison reviews with the PX100 are VERY mixed to say the least! What's up with that?

I had the Senn PX100 at the top of the list for some cheapie Walkman upgrades, but both these AKGs are available to me at a semi-reasonable price, so I'm hunting some comparisons!

I have AKG K601s for my home set-up, and like 'em, considering upgrading to K701s at some point. Does this taste inform my decision?

The K71s (right) are semi-open, like the PX100s, and this may be a decider, unless the PX100s are better per se...

So, any feedback on these?

I have the K601 and love it. I had the K26P, and am sorry to say that it's the only headphone I've ever had that I simply couldn't bear to listen to. I don't mean to just dismiss them like that, but in my opinion they really are that bad. I also have an old pair of PortaPros and they are leagues better than the K26P.

Jaska and I differ on the K26Ps.

Here are my views:
1. They are bass heavy, and the bass eats into the mids.
2. They bass tightens significantly when paired with Fiio E3s.
3. I would not wear these at home if I really want to listen to music.
4. I would definitely wear these outdoors. They isolate great and are very fun headphones.
5. I would wear these are the gym. Again, great isolation and very fun.
6. They are the best in the very small ~$50, closed portables category.

Here's some other info:
1. There appears to be QC issues with these. There's an old thread on this.
2. The 414Ps are sometimes said to be improved versions of the 26Ps.
3. The JBL Reference 410s and 510s are sometimes said to be just as good as the 24Ps and 26Ps, but much cheaper. Ask 1Time.

Do you include experience with the Senn PX100 in that summary comparison?

I have the AKG k414p which are the european version of the K26p.
I have been using them almost every day for a few month now, I can say they are very clear, analytical HPs for the price range, and almost ideal for outdoor hearing.

One thing I must clear is the comfort issure - the K26p hurts your ears,, so after half an hour of listening you'll notice a discomfort.

If you decide to buy them after all, a 50 hour burn-in is a must for those.

I think the K414Ps are the new K26Ps, actually...

Also, I've never heard anyone call them analytical. They're pretty bass heavy, and the low end has a way to muddying the mids. But yes, I agree that they're ideal for outdoor hearing.

I've not experienced any discomfort with the K26Ps, nor have I experienced any burn-in effects. However, the Fiio E3 seems to tighten up the bass considerably.

I used to have K26p and didn't like the sound. I felt that they had a really weird coloration in the mids and highs that just made music sound strange. They do have good bass though and are reasonably comfy. Maybe they needed more burn in.

I didn't like K26P/K414P at all and gave away my pair. I agree with the opinions in this thread that the open K24P/K412P and PX100 sound much better. If you need something that sounds good and isolates well in that price class, I'd recommend a good pair of IEM's instead.

I was looking at the 414 but ended up going with these Denons...

Don't know much about them and won't have them until Tuesday.

They are the Denon AH-P372K Compact On-Ear Headphones, and seem to fall in this category of midrange closed portables.
