Why I am abandoning tube amps

I have been using a Mu Fi V2 amp for several years now. It's a
nice amp. I changed the power supply capacitors and it sounded
even better. I even drilled out the case to provide some ventilation, which also seemed to help some. And I bought a
much beefier power supply, which made it sound better still.
But ... it eats tubes. I'm tired of replacing tubes every few
months; and really good tubes are ungodly expensive. And I'm
sick of tube noise - hiss, static, snap-crackle-pop, etc. So,
adios to my tube amp. And hello (fairly soon) to a good ss
amp, very likely a Perreaux.

I'd happily accept recommendations for a good ss amp, but
everything I've read says the Perreaux is pretty good and so
I'm about convinced to get it.

The Perreaux destroys all versions of the X-Can (i'm a previous owner of the v2 and v3). You will be very happy with the Perreaux

I had the same problem with the v3 after just a month. Unsurprisingly, I sold it

IMO the Perreaux is a good choice.

However, the X-Can v2 should not be eating tubes. One thing you could be doing is using 6DJ8's in the circuit. Those are less durable than 6922's and won't last long in the amp. 7308's are more durable still. I also would turn the amp off when not in use, regardless of what Musical Fidelity says. A good pair of 7308's should last years in that amp. Tube noise should be non-existent, if the tubes are good. If you've been hearing it consistently, you've been using bad tubes, or the wrong tubes.
