For the price, the HD570's are outstanding with portables and cheap equipment for CLASSICAL music. I love them.
I could carry around my Total Airhead amp with my 580s or 600's, but the 570's do the job.

They are greatly maligned. I myself like to malign Grados, which I have owned and dumped. For some chamber music, the Grados are tolerable.

If you listen to classical music, and have portables, the 570s are great.

I do NOT prefer them for other types of music. The 570s were designed for classical music, and they do the job there.

I use them on CD, MD, NJB3, and Treo 10 all with great success.

I have never really cared for the HD 570's, either. Bloated and bright both at once. What's worse, they're even more power-hungry than the HD 580's or HD 600's.

Another case of Sennheiser in the 1998-1999 time frame trying to develop a headphone that claims to be "ideal for Classical", yet was really best suited for (c)rap - with disappointing results.

Actually, the HD600's came out in late 1997 or early 1998. I was talking about the screwed up Senns that were designed in 1998 and introduced in 1999.
