Why do everyone hate them?
Most would go with the 497/477/495 instead of 570s.
I wonder if their ears have addicted with the much more expensive 580, 590 and 600.

I haven't heard the 570, just the 575, which I think are quite similar. The reason I'm no big fan of them is that they sounded quite boring! Their sound is VERY lean (where's the bass?) and distant. I'd use the word "brittle" too. Don't get me wrong: it's refined and quality sound, but not full range. A quiet whisper that's never aggressive... But sometimes, I want to feel the power of the hurricane

On the other hand, they were very light and comfortable, so you could wear them all day and not get annoyed.

Personally, I prefer a more involving sound. Bass is often key to that: gets you nodding you head, tapping your foot, etc. In that respect, the other Senn you mention are better (and grado even better!).

It's a matter of taste I guess.

Xerx---

the 570s are not anywhere near as useless as the 500s, but the 70s are meant to be specialized phones, i.e. focused on classical music listening, and they do not even do that particularly well. Bass as mentioned is pretty minimal and even treble sounds shrill with most music. It's a pretty questionable decision to design phones so strongly oriented towards one type of music, and Senn did not pull it off well with either these or the 500s. The 500s sound lethargic and the 570s are anemic. The 500s sound worse but the 570s cost more.

The 570s are comfortable phones, and reasonably well made and if they cost half as much as they do, they would have more fans. As it stands, they are not worth the money. The 497s are less than half as much and sound excellent with classical as well as every other type of music. Senn probably intends to phase the 570 phones out, so their price may fall to reasonable levels in the intermediate future.

The 570 is like the middle child - doesn't fit with the rest of their product line.

The HD570 performance was considered ok when the HD580 was a very expensive product. But when the price of the HD580 dropped from like $300.00 to $200.00 US, the HD570 kinda become obsolete or redundant. THE HD570's price fell from its original $200.00 to its present day $130.00. The HD580 is a much better deal to buy today because of its exceptional performance.

Still, the HD570 had the same issues with its sonic qualities when it first came out.

ok, Kind of Blue does go really high (I think it's just the recording), but the 570s make it go to earsplitting heights. So much that I had to rip them off my ears in fear of damaging my ears. From what I hear, the 497s are probably worlds better than the 570s, and what I'm probably going to be getting next to replace the 570s. Hopefully I can find someone who wants these

Of course, I have to be different........

I have the 570's and LIKE them. They are very comfortable.
I like the sound. But I listen to mainly classical music. They are also much lower impedence than 580/600 so can be driven by portables.

I think their response, unlike the rolled off 600/580's is flatter on the high and low end, or maybe a little up on the high end.

I use them mainly on a Nomad Jukebox directly (It barely has power this way). And also with a Total Airhead. It's fine on any portable with the TA.

Different devices sound different. The nastiest two were the Archos 6000 jukebox and a Classic MP3/CD player. They sounded very nasty with the 570's. Then again, they both stank.

I found the Beyer DT990s brighter than the 570's. The Beyers were also smaller for my fat head. The 570's barely fit me.

The plug on the left headpiece is a bit annoying sometimes, as it can get intermittent if you tug enough on it.

Pricewise? They are worth about $120 or less.

But to be honest, if I could have returned them, I would have.
When they were delivered, I was in the hospital and my folks were at my apartment door at the exact time of delivery and signed for them. By the time I was able to evaluate them, the return period had expired. My decision would have been to return them, and keep using my Sony 7506's for portable use.

So I use them alot... more than the Sony's, but only because I have them.

I don't use them as my main phones. I use the HD600's.

I don't hate them, and there are some other people who don't hate them. (I got a pair and I try very hard to find people who has a good word for them)
It's nice to know I only paid about USD $95 for them, but maybe I should have gone for those HP 890 that I keep seeing in Sydney for USD $70.

There are a group of about 30 people on the Overcloclockers Australia bulletin boards that have been waiting for months for a group order of HD570 to arrive. Advertise them there and you'll get your money back quicksmart.

Well, I first bought a pair of HD575s and found them great... then I exchanged them for a pair of HD600s, which were a major improvement. Nowadays I sometimes listen to my friend's HD570s, and I must say that they are enjoyable unless I've got my HD600s there to do a direct comparison.

As far as I remember the clarity of the 575s was slightly better than that of the 570s, but I've never had a chance to compare the two phones... Imo the HD570s offer good value for money.

I like my 570's. But I also agree that with the 580's available for basically the same price, the 570's have lost their place.

The 570's are good for more than just classical, but I would say they are not so good for rock or any rock-like loud, hard-hitting music.

The 570s are more comfortable than my 580s.

The HD570 is not that bad sounding unless you're listening to music.

The HD497 does sound better I admit, as does the HD580 for sure, but the HD570 has them all beat for comfort. I can't bring myself to sell them since they get so much use for that very reason. Movies, games, tv, it does them all well, and there is no discomfort. For people like me with stick-out ears, this headphone is a real treat. My HD600 and Stax give me about 1 hour listening before my ears hurt, so they're out of the equation for movies and games.

The 580's sound very good, when I listened to all of them in KaDeWe I didn't have enough time to make a comparo, but the HD570's definetely were bloated, and the HD580's were very neutral, the HD590's had a different sound, but good...the CD780's sound really good with excellent bass, but the pads are like having someone putting a stuffed animal over your ear...I don't like it, it's comfy but weird, they weigh much more than senns, about the same as my A500's, but the senns are extremely light, I was surprised how light they were, especially the HD580's, for how much the HD590's cost, the headband connector definetely looks very cheap, I recommend the HD580's more just because of that, didn't really notice a sound difference, I think the HD590's had a more powerful sound, but that's all.

HD570: 64 Ohms
HD590: 128 Ohms (~120)
HD580/600: 300 Ohms
