Ya, with you. I rarely have enough time listening to music, I really could not be bothered with spoken word on a regular basis.

Slacker Astronomy

"Two gen-x professional astronomers and a radio dude team up to tackle a weekly news event in
the world of astronomy. They use plenty of dry humor and schtick but respect the intelligence of the
audience. Think Dr. Who combined with Carl Sagan and Car Talk. Hosted by Pamela Gay and Travis Searle. "

Firesign Theatre

"The Grammy-nominated anarcho-satiric comedy troupe Firesign Theatre offers audio clips from their new and classic albums and radio performances. The Future Fair! You may already be there!"

And Apple astutely swooped in to take advantage of it. Only until a few months ago, I thought "podcasting" was something unique to iPods. I just started listening to podcasts with the release of iTunes 4.9.

One podcast no one has mentioned that I found good is Tips from the Top Floor (http://www.tipsfromthetopfloor.com). It's a digital photography tips talk show.

Apple had nothing to do with naming them "pod"casts (an unfortunate name, in my opinion, because it leads non Ipod owners to believe they must be played on an Ipod). The reason (for them being called that) is very simple...Apple has roughly 75 percent of the mp3 player market! Which is why it's "all about the pods". I am NOT an Ipod fan! I think they represent HORRID value. Give me a Creative or Iriver player anyway...preferably one with a friggin' record input (AND ONE THAT LETS ME USE JANUS DRM MATERIAL FROM SUBSCRIPTION SITES LIKE Rhapsody to Go, and Yahoo!)

Hey, Podcasts aren't just talk. Mine is ALL about da' music, and about variety you won't get on ANY terrestrial radio station. Here's the link to input into Ipodder or Doppler http://www.theproductionroom.net/podcast.xml

Listen streaming, or right click and download at http://www.theproductionroom.net

Enjoy!

I'm not an iPod owner: "pod" cast. "MP3" cast. "plays on all MP3 players not just iPods" cast. hmmmmm

I always thought 'cast' was inappropriate. I mean you can make one by yourself. Course it may mean 'broadcast', then I guess they're dropping the first part to make it gender neutral???

Next thing you know they may make 'carports' that allow trucks too, 'cell phones' which don't use cellular networks... maybe even someday 'films' shot in video, or 'record stores' selling CDs. Crazy.

question: iTunes podcast directory: does list of podcasts update itself automatically, or do you have to select something?

question 2: http://www.podcastingnews.com/topics..._Software.html which on this site is the best pocast software for windows? there are so many and I'm lazy. Oh free of course - no subscription fees!

question 3: http://www.podcast.net/ how do I get podcasts from this site onto my PC? Although I got a feeling the answer to Q2 may answer this one....

thanks in advance

To subscribe to Podcast use either "Ipodder" or "Doppler". At the podcasting site you choose, right click on the link to the XML file containing the "enclosure", choose "copy link", then paste the link into the "subscribe" window on your chosen "podcatching" software.

And yes, "cast" is meant to invoke "brodcast'. "Podcasting" is considered a new way of delivering RADIO programs by subscription (once you sign up, each new broadcast on the site will also be downloaded automatically, providing you leave Ipodder running in the background)...internet radio.
