Beautiful room! In all honesty though, I do think there is a certain degree of ego stroking. Anybody who spends $100,000 in cabling isn't really merely aiming for the "absolute sound" IMHO. But I'd probably do the same if I had a multi-million dollar annual income.

I've heard Mike Lavigne is an extremely nice person, and I would not be presumptious enough to conclude he doesn't donate thousands of dollars to charity. I have no problems with his spending habits. It is extravagent (an understatement if there ever was one), but it's not fair to unfoundly deride his character.

Hear hear Len... good post.

Character shouldnt be judged by your gear. Your dedication to the hobby might be judged, but not your personal character.

As others have stated, I would also become apathetic with only a music system. What I would do is turn it into part rehearsal room by enlarging it a little and placing a baby grand piano, double bass, and trombone inside.

I'm sorry. Friends have to watch out for friends, right? Apologize to the nice, friendly sensible people on these forums and stop trolling about.

I quote the beginnings of your original, unedited post, which you made the mistake of putting up in AIM:

I dunno. We all know the boutique cables are a load of ********, albeit expensive ********. I think the fact that he uses them extensively throughout his whole system means something, and not that he enjoys high fidelity sound. Probably something more along the lines of, "Hey, look guys, I have too much money to spend!." This is ego-stroking taken to extremes. It's like masturbating and ejecting your load onto a silk pillow before proceeding to clean up your throbbing member with a $20 bill.

I think it's quite plausible to infer to anyone who gets off on showing off their latest toy, or the asinine amount of cash they just blew on some useless piece of **** is a pompous ******* who lives for...

Stop being stupid.

If i had the money i would definitely do what he did.

and why the hell not? You live once, so you might as well enjoy it, you sure's hell are not taking your money with you when you die. Good for him and man, i'd love to hear LA Woman on that rig one day...

At first I kind of agreed with Twomblys post but then I thought

"HOW THE HELL DOES ANYONE HERE KNOW IF THIS GUY DOESNT ALREADY DONATE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO CHARITY EACH YEAR?"

so, uh, shut up.

A big house is a gross display of wealth. A big car is a gross display of wealth. Expensive designer clothes are a gross display of wealth, yada yada yada... You're going to spend most of your life feeling bitter and angry at the world because it's chock full of people with more money than you'll ever have. That's life, it's the way the world is. Or is the hostility only reserved for people who spend a lot on audio? If so, I wonder what that's all about?

If I was wealthy beyond belief, I'd have a room a lot like that one, too.

Markl,

I completely agree. Twombly's naive belief that people who are wealthy shouldnt display their wealth on their terms since displaying it would be a pompous act doesnt make sense both logically and financially. This is why our country runs on a capitalistic economy - so those of us who work hard and are given a stroke of luck can be rewarded very well materialistically. To assume that one is a dick for acquiring such materials is not only presumptuous on your part, Twombly, but also defeats the purpose of what runs this country financially.

Seconded. From what this room looks to me it is a job done with much though & devotion. It's the same as all the other audio freaks do, just on this person's level of income. So what? And you'd bet I would do quite the same. In fact I'd much rather have it multichannel & include a nice projection system unless I was so incredibly rich that I had a fully devoted cinema right next door. Which would feature seating for at least two people of course

Different strokes for different folks is right. If it was me, it'd be a full surround setup and a projector for viewing movies. Sure, you'd have to sacrifice some of the treatment that room has, but in the end I'd be happier that way.

i think the room/audio gears is so ugly that i would throw up and lost my enjoyment for the music. old wood with polished paint and leather. i'd be impressed by some German Physiks speakers though.
