How do you open these SA5000? I have some issues with cable and would like to recable them. Thanks.

There are 4  small phillip screws under the earpads You can push the earpads out of the way to get to them.
If you do a search there is a thread with photos.

Just be careful when opening them up, they are VERY fragile.

I saw pictures but do I have to pull out pads first to get into screw? How to put earpads back then?

No just push the earpads from the center out to expose  each screw,do the same when putting the screws back in.

Hi guys,
just bought a 2nd hand SA5000 they are in a good shape except the pads which are completely destroyed!
It seems that SRH840 & M50 pads fit the Sony's, Denon's too.
So which ones will be the best to buy?

Unfortunately that is the price for those pads. There no other sources other than sony because demand for these headphones was so small. If you want to save a lot of money, I'd suggest tossing the SA3000 pads on them. I think they are far more comfortable than the SA5000 pads, although they may end up having less bass.

Use some thin fabric or stocking to cover the opening, and then apply the SA3k pads, you might even find it an improvement. Enjoy!
