That's a good question. I don't recall ever seeing a small desktop DAC with this. Of course using a portable amp/DAC will get this done.

im pretty sure the DAC1 can do it, you just switch the outputs to variable. The DAC1 pre can definitely do it.

Probably overkill for just listening, but the Cranesong Avocet DAC has a (very good) stepped attenuator and 3 completely passive, unbalanced analog outs (and 3 digital outs) with trim controls.

TADAC from Tube Audio has gain control.

I just bought this about 3 weeks ago. Before I owned a Zindak dac-5 and keces da-151.

I can surely say that I am done looking for new DACs. The TADAC is the sound I've been looking for so long.

I will post a review eventually when my Little Dot MKVI arrives.
