Neil Peart. He's the reason why I spend so much of my money on good audio equipment!!

Seriously, I've seen the guy play live twice and both performances absolutely blew my mind.

This is perfect.

Jazz drummers > Rock Drummers (Jaki Liebezeit > everyone else)

“Who is the best drummer in he world?”

The better question might be: Who’s your favorite drummer?

At least when talking about cars there is some objective criteria: ¼ mile time, 0-60 ECT. but when talking about ranking musicians it is purely subjective. Who’s best is a silly question. My brother is a drummer and I wouldn’t even ask him who’s best. Who’s the best singer? Male? Female? Baritone? Soprano? Mezzo-Soprano?

Perhaps the drummer who is listed as their favorite by the most people is “The Best” Somehow I think that probably correlates to how well known they are. Anyways,,, Lists are still fun.

Since I am a HUGE King Crimson fan my favorite percussionist is Bill Bruford.

Actually the statement wasn't that cut and dry, there are several flaws in your logic. What do you have against Jaki, Can, or people having opinions for that matter?

Uh... I thought I was agreeing with you.

My little equation meant that I think Jaki Liebezeit is the best rock drummer, but I also think jazz drumming tends to outclass rock drumming by its very nature. You might say the reason I like Liebezeit is that he's got lots of strengths you usually only find in a jazz drummer.

I have no problem with people having opinions. ^That's an opinion.

I just thought I would add Jose Pasillas to the list of Favorite/best drummers.(emphasis on favorite)

My favorite thing about him is now matter what he is doing, his playing has a flowing, musical quality that doesn't sound like what most drummers try to do with their playing.(i.e. melodic vs groove, accents and mathematical precision)

I accidentally interjected some sarcasm into your text and subsequently feel like a real jerk now.

Have you checked out those can remasters yet? great stuff, sounds a ton better than the originals IMO, check em out for sure if you can.

the best drummer, for me, right now, is a norwegian guy called Paal Nilsen-Love. Most creative and groovy use of the drumkit i've ever heard! can be heard with ken vandermark, and loads of ecm-related artists.

Rush's drummer (I can't believe, but I forget the name of him!

) is just amazing. He's still one of the best.

John Bonham is my idol.. he made me the drummer I am today. Just an insane drummer.

Phil Collins did some AMAZING work in his earlier power-jazz group, Brand X.

There are many nameless jazz drummers who did amazing work as well.
