Hello to anyone that replies to this, and let me say in advance, thanks for your opinion. There is one thing I ask when voiceing your opinion though, please overlook the difference you may have in prefering CD's over MCD's or visa versa for any reason other than sound quality. I am only looking for your opinion relating to,and only to, the sound quality thru the line out.

The 3 choices I have are the following:

Sony MZ-R50
Panasonic SL-CT470
Panasonic SL-CT570

Thats it!

If you would like to add any reasons in addition to your choice, please feel free.

Thanks,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I have no experience with Mini Disc players so I will only address the two Panasonics as I have owned both.

The SL-CT470 is made of plastic, the 570 is made of metal. Both have a line out, while the 570 also has an optical out (although I have not used it). The 470 comes with a battery pack that holds AAs (my 570 did not, but I did buy it used). The 570 comes with a remote, while the 470 does not.

Sonically, I can not tell the difference between the two.

I have the R-50,CT570,and the CT470 is on the way. I bought the 470 on Xins rating as being better than the 570,but harder to come by. I would really like to try out the Sony MD,but due to being ignorant about the proper way of recording,I haven't used it since I received it going on 2 months now.

Maybe someone with an additional MD(s) on hand would be so kind as to PM me to make arrangements for me to borrow or "gladly buy" it/them from you.

JMT, I will try out the 470 upon arrival to compare the 2. I will also be using that new RCA/MINI cable you just completed for me. Thanks again, and what a work of craftsmanship. I am almost afraid to take it out of the wrap and use it but like they say, "A mans gotta do what a mans gotta do".

Mine is right next to the line out jack. The sleeve has white insulation and is labeled "OPT OUT," underneath it it says "A. Shock Off only."

It is my understanding that it is only the japanese version that came with these features. The US version did not, only a standard lineout.

Now that you mention it, the seller did tell me he bought the unit overseas. My apologies for the confusion.

We need some votes on the Sony MZ-R50 vs. either the Panasonic SL-CT 470,,,,,, OR 570

I can't be the only owner of these, Past or Present.

Someone should have experience with these to to throw their vote in the ring.....

The MZR50's line out seriously blows away the Panasonic's, at least the 470 which i own. The panasonic 470 is a overrated POS, sounds dull in comparison to the Sony. The MZR50's lineout sounds amazing, lots of detail and very clean. For me, it's a no brainer: Sony MZR50.

That's still better than what I can say for most of the recent Sony PCDPs. The Sony PCDPs' headphone outs sound dull; their line-outs, coloured and overdynamic. Bleh!

In other words, I much prefer Sony's MD units to their PCDPs, as a whole.

to me the line out of the MZ-R55 (which is on the most part the R50) is a little thin, and not to my liking... but then again i've not heard any of the Panasonics...

OK, now we're getting some where.

1 for the 570

2 for the Sony MD

1 not for the Sony (or the Panasonics)

Wait a minute,,,,,,,,,,,,This is still too close to tell
