Which headphones the Senn HD25 or the Senn HD25-SP sound more like the Senn HD650?
I love my 650's with my SR-71 and I am looking for cans with some isolation for work which sound close the the 650's.

thanks for your input.

What's more like a ferrari - A Ford Mustang '73 or a rusty Lada ?

If you love your HD650 it's hard to find satisfaction with the HD25-1. I like the HD25-1 as they are, and they are very compact and all, but not near the same ball park as HD650. But if you want, I believe the HD25-1 is the closest (surprise?). According to others the HD25-SP has less controlled bass with a more rolled-off treble, while the HD25-1 doesn't suffer from this (although it has treble, it is very undetailed and scratchy compared to HD650).

Are you limited to sennheiser closed phones ?

Thanks for the input Daroid.

No I am not set on the Senn's i just thought it would be a good place to start
looking for closed cans. i have the Shure e3c but they start to hurt after about an hour and i need something I can use for a couple of hours at
a time.

For work.... they shouldn't be to large either, then ?
The HD25-1 and SP lays ontop of the ear which gets uncomfortable and hurts after a few hours. The velour/cloth pads are more comfortable than the stock pleather pads.

I have no experience whatsoever with the AKG K271, but a lot of people here like them very much - comfortable, sounds very well, isolates. But they generally doesn't isolate as well as the HD25-1:

... and they are larger.

Maybe someone who has K271s + HD650 will see this thread.

I have the k271s and hd650. The 271s is very comforatable and has amazing isolation - that graph from headroom doesn't really do its isolation justice, IMO. However it's very very difficult for me to accept the sound after being so used to the 650 (and hp-2, and k340) - the 650 beats it badly in every aspect of SQ. You do get a bit of the closed-can hollow sounding effect in the midrange. Bass is pretty weak, though at least it isn't muddy or bloated. Headstage is quite small for a circumaural can. Layers of music aren't separated as well as with decent open cans. Music sounds a bit dry and unemotional. I am not impressed with the SQ for the price, though at least it has good isolation in combination with a not-too-recessed midrange. On SQ alone I much prefer other cheaper cans including the HD580 and HD555. I may even prefer the Koss Porta Pro 2 just for fun factor (though I would not say its sound quality is better than the k271s). Unfortunately none of these cans isolate so for now I use the k271s at the office.

Please note that I have probably only have 90 or so hours so far on the k271s, so that may be a factor but then the hd555 sounds so much better right out of the box. Also I am only using the stock cable.

I think I have heard the k271s called a closed hd580/600 by some? To that I say...say what??!!!??

I hate to hammer on these poor akgs, but I really think the price is out of line - it should be around $100.

The Beyerdynamic DT 250-250 is the closest you can get to a Sennheiser HD 650 in a closed, portable package. The are several others next in line depending on where you set the criteria for resemblance. The AKG 271 on the other hand has very little in common with the HD 650 mainly due to an entirely different presentation of the midrange. The Beyerdynamic DT 250-250 requires an amp and you do have a SR-71.

Second Tao's choice. Imo closest tonal balance to hd650 = dt250-250.

I've been looking for sealed phones that give enjoyable sound like hd650. Got hd25sp, 25ba (?), 25-1, 271s, hfi550 (close but no cigar), hd280 (a bit bright), dt250 (lacking extreme HF detail) - and heard hfi650, dt770. Apart from that extra zing heard on 650, dt250 give warm pleasing sound with similar circumaural comfort, larger sized than 25s though.

My 2000th post - very appropriately posted to the ode of 250 & 650 combo.
