Which one of the following headphones have the best 3d positioning and clarity?

-Sennheiser HD555/595
-Audiotechnica ATH-A500/900
-Beyerdynamics DT770/880/990

Price is not an issue here

I've got the impression from here that the audio-technica ones got the largest sound stage. So I guess the ATH-A900, but since I haven't listened to anyone of them I know nothing =P

Yes I'm gonna get the go-vibe v5. Will that be enough?

i can only say that the hd595's are excellent cans and are great all-around phones. I use mine for everything (gaming included... which is about 2/3 of their use)

from what I've read the DT770's would be best for gaming (you'll prob want an amp w/ them)

the ath700's would also be good, and they would be a decent all around can as well and you won't need an amp with them.

the hd595's are great for gaming, an amp will give you better results

In my time here it seems the A900 is the most recommended gaming headphone. I haven't heard the A900 (would like to) but have 595 and 770.

People generally say the A900 is the best for this application because it's supposedly an all-arounder, with bass, that doesn't require an amp. 595 is a solid all around headphone but the bass is somewhat limited. 770 will kick your ass with bass, but you need an amp--which kills the savings you get by only paying $140 for them. And IMO, and the opinion of several others is the detail is lacking on 770s.

I've found that those asking about gaming that want to dual-use their headphones with music generally are recommended the 595 as the "safest" choice. Then again, for music, most people rip on sound cards for music and start recommending DACs, so it goes on and on.

One thing is for sure--if you want serious bass, skip the 595. And if you WANT serious bass, get an amp and the 770s. If a grenade goes off in a game while you're wearing 770s, it will be so devastating you'll be looking around for the shrapnel.

A900s are supposedly an in between choice.

Can I still use the Go-Vibe V5 to improve the quality of the A900, DT770, or HD595? Also, bass isnt really a big issue for me. Sure, lots of bass helps during music but it sacrafices 3d positioning in games, which is a no-no in games. So taking bass out of the equation, which headphone do you think has the BEST soundstage

I have the dt770 and use them most with bf2 and q2. In bf2, there's a LOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT of bass, but it never detracts from the 3d positioning. I can usually spot a sniper with my ears within seconds (but not immediately, cuz there's usually a lot of gunfighting goin on). The 3d positioning is always accurate. EXCEPT for one case. Sometimes a helicopter on a horizontal plane with you will sound like it's above, and visa versa. I've heard this could be a problem with "higher" end headphones and bf2(only). Other than that, I highly recommend the dt770 for gaming. O yea, one game it really shines with is f.e.a.r. I rely on my ears for kills probably 90% of the time, instead of my eyes. I hear a person through the walls, grab a dark corner and wait, and as soon as he sounds like he's by the door, I start shooting. Works beautifully

Some people think that wicked bass isn't necessary in gaming, but I think they'd all change their mind if they heard a well burned in dt770/80(mine is unamped currently) with bf2. Yea, they'd change their minds:P

*edit* I'm getting an amp (most likely the little dot micro+) cuz it's often said that to see the dt770/80's best, you'll need one. But I will probably only use it for music, cuz I've heard that tigther bass isn't superior to relatively looser bass for explosions, cuz it don't give you that "thick floor of bass." I can kinda see what people are sayin, too, cuz if you play bf2, you'd know that the artillery strikes are pretty much the bassiest phenomenon to take place in gaming. Well to my pleasant suprise, as the dt770/80 burned in, the arty strikes sounds incredibly boomy(not in a bad way, more like BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMM MOTHER*****ER! *not exaggerating

*) and devastating, like how all the kills it gets would suggest. I HIGHLY recommend the dt770/80 for gaming only. But if ur goin to do something like 1/3 music 2/3 gaming, I'd suggest skip the a900 and dt770/80 and go straight for the hd595. A lot of people are pleased with the hd595's bass(but not AMAZED by them like dt770/80 gamers), and it doesn't have recessed mids(which the a900 and dt770/80 have), which, I'm now believing, is VERY important for music. My opinion? Gaming only? = dt770/80! Music+gaming? =hd595! GL:P

*another edit* The dt770's soundstage is amazing. The better the music/game was recorded, the better the soundstage sounds. If the music is really hi-end, that's how the dt770/80's soundstage will sound like. Again, if you play bf2, you should know the Strike At Karkand map. One time I was at the suburbs(it was clear) and a lot of fighting was still going on at the square. I heard the fighting going on there! Even though the square is several hundred "meters" away from the suburbs. It sounded l33t

I don't understand why people always recommend closed cans for LAN parties. Isn't the whole point of a LAN to talk to other people and listening to their reactions to what happens in the game?

LAN party audiophiles? That does really exist? If price isn't an issue there, why don't you try them all? Price never is an issue, especially for the hardcore gamer, right?

All of them are recommended for gaming, so go with the one thats easier to find for you! I would recommend my HD555 as I love mine, but HD595 are selling in the "For Sale" forum for around 125$. Many people love them to death. Same thing with the A900 or DT880.

And I would say such headphones will likely improve your gaming too. When I played Counter-Strike XBOX with such cans, I definitively had a serious advantage over any 5.1 or Stereo sound users! I did some PC Counter-Strike too, and it helped. You will get brutally banned from servers too!

The positionning is perfect. I was pretty good at Halo 2 too. I am not a big gamer, but having such cans really adds to the overall experience.

Now find an hardcore gamer who has experienced all of them, and ask his opinion, so you can buy the very best!

Good luck!

I'm a competitive CS:S gamer, and have used Sennheiser EH150's, PC160's, and now use Beyerdynamic DT880's.

DT880's are phenominal for gaming, but my guess is they are a tad bit overkill if that's your sole purpose of having them. The comfort is easily the best aspect of the DT880's for gaming (they never tire after long, long sessions). Only really odd thing is needing an amp for gaming headphones

If you ask me, when configured properly, the X-Fi w/ CMSS3d is the biggest advantage for gaming.

I game with my 595/650 & sometimes I feel guilty..It's like I'm cheating..I can always hear then 5-10 seconds away (foot steps) before I see them & kill them..
