Which one for gaming?

No. The DT880 is a polite headphone, and lacks the punch of the DT770. It doesn't have the impact you'll need, and I think the soundstages are fairly comparable. Do the DT770.

As an added note, I find myself using my open phones when playing games lately, due to my Warcraft Guild's reliance on Ventrillo for PvP and instances. I'm sure there's something I could set to have my own voice play back into my ear in the closed phone, but it's just easier with an open phone.

i wonder if the sa5000s would be good for games because of detail i have no idea how good they are sound stage wise though or maybe grados to feel like you are right there in the game.

Yes, I use voice chat all the time, and I HATE using closed phones when talking.

Nope. Didn't do so well in my tests. The SA5000 has a funky soundstage, and didn't do positioning very well. It also lacks bass authority, and let's face it... I like explosions. As it has been said in other places, the SA5000 has a funky decay that doesn't sound natural at times. It does poorly with ambient sound effects.

Grados are my headphone of choice in an RPG type game... I like RPG music and I like Grados best with string sections. Some of my fondest gaming memories in the past year were playing Dragon Quest VIII on the PS2 with my new RS1s.

Of those you have listed, I've only used the 595 and the DT770. The DT770 is good at positioning for sure and it's also good at making you jump out of your seat every now and then if you turn a corner and a shotgun blast nails you point blank

The positioning on the 595 is horrible in my opinion. It comes across as being artificially deep and will hinder you at pinpointing directions/distance accurately. While I adored it for music, I think other than its comfort, it is pretty bad for gaming. (translation - get your butt kicked). Even Grado's give better positioning info.

The Senn 650's on the other hand are great, but they are overkill if you're only going to use them for gaming.

imho a good set of headphones will not make you better at games but a bad set will make you worse

I found the HD650 to have too much of the "3 blob" effect to position accurately for me. DT770 does a good job.

Grados do a good job with positioning also, really. The headstage just isn't all that large.
