Which of the top headphones has the best visual presentation? ( 56k warning)

Hard to really say. I've never handled the HE90 or original Omega, so I can't really speak to those. More or less in order of preference:

010, sexy looking. I don't mind how light they are in person. Stand is sexy. Yes, exposed screws and plastic on the "horn" part mars the experience. A nice case would have been nice. Can look crappy in photos/bulky in person from certain angles, such as the Stereophile ad. Surprisingly doesn't look bad when photographed on people.

L3000, photos don't do it justice - looks better in person. AT went a cheaper route with the box, over the W2002's case but it's not a bad box. Smaller than I originally thought. Leather is in fact very classy.

PS-1, I actually really like how these look. I also like the pizza-box - it gets the job done. Needs a better size adjustment mechanism - the plastic is kinda cheap feeling (but gets the job done, surprisingly).

R10, no question about the quality of its materials and sound. But just the cups are so big and dorky... case is the best I've seen out of all the phones.

W2002, really disappointing in person, but damn sexy in photos. The most photogenic. Case is okay, though not R10 level.

Omega 2, plastic/colors are a bit old-school, but still very classy. Can't speak to its box/case as I've never used it.

Ultrasone Edition 7, plastic build reminded me of a $700 can rather than $4000. Case is well designed and nice, though not very sexy looking.

Anyway, I can't speak to the W11JPN as I've never held them, but I love the look of my W10VTG and W10LTD. The old school wings though take away from it - the new wings look better (though are made of pretty cheapo plastic.) I think I'd list the W11JPN right before or after the L3000.

Best,

-Jason

I had to vote for the AT's. Really beautiful. Here's another pic I found (from a pair currently for sale on Audiogon). Love to have the dough buy them, too bad I don't.

What plastic part are you referring to? The only plastic part I can see is the bracket attaching the elastic band to the metal ear cups.

You're right - I was referencing the cable, though now that I look at the PS-1 cable, I realize it's a bit unfair given how el cheapo the Grado is.

You know, I really ought to bump the Omega 2 over the W2002. I think the only reason the W2002's on my list is because it photographs so damn well. But the PS-1... heh, I guess I like how it looks despite everything. =)

Best,

Yea just stunning- No Flash, just a serious looking can.
The "pine" box is nice nice. You don't hear much about them. $!
It's interesting to see the pads are very thick on the STAX to gain distance from ear to stator.
Such is the same for Electrostatic speakers. To be enjoyed at distance.

Gotta say, I was just a little dissappointed when I first laid eyes on the w2002 "in the flesh". However, they do still look excellent in person (IMO), and pairing them up with the matching HA2002 really brings the visual experience up a few notches. The HA2002 amp really looks amazing in person; no photo I've seen has done it justice yet.

Really,I remember I read in another thread that not only W2002 are the best looking cans in existance but also "no picture can do it justice".

The Stock photo of the w2002 makes it look different then how it looks in person, some feel it looks better in the stock photo (where others feel it's the other way around).
I personally feel that the He90 and R10 look better then the w2002. The l3000 and w2002 are on par in person (different but on par). I think the L3000g may have the slight edge on the w2002.

Orpheus for me doubtlessly. Seeing the pool after voting I realized my opinion follows the current status of the poll, I think Omega II goes second, all the others clearly behind their league in looks (and sound

Me too. If W2002's were up there I would have voted in the poll. As it stands..

I think W2002's>RS-1's>HE90's>W1000's>Qualias>PS1=HP1

Omega II - don't look cheap or plastic at all to me and I like the headband better than Omega I...followed close by L3K and R10.

yeah, w2002 ranks right up there too
