The D33 has a batter DAC, 8X oversample, the D36 has a 1 Bit DAC.

AWE64 ISA only unfortunatly but so good that I have built an old pc up just to use it again. Sounds far better than soundblaster live and audigy2 and I think the output is bitperfect when the volume is at 100% with cd audio ripped as wav. Very low noise floor aswell which is often a problem of PC sound cards. Recording is crappy on it though, it's basicly cd audio and midi card.

*hopefully going to win abid on an AWE64 Gold which looks spiffier and has more chips so should be even better.

Entech 205.2 for ~$90 (IIRC)

Panasonic PCDPs... SL-CT570A/430. Both are the Japan models and function great as optical transports. $17/Each shipped.

IMHO the MDR-EX90 doesn't get a lot of praise any more, but I still enjoy mine (modded) in the office when I don't need the isolation. The de-foam mod is a MUST with these IMHO.

Oops... I just realized this was in the PC as source section. I'll leave my post unchanged though.

My KECES Burr-Brown PCM2702 USB DAC, probably because not that many people know about it since they don't have a big presence in north america. It gives me great sound from my laptop and it is quite easy to mod.

Definitely the Entech 203.5, check out its specs on stereophile, way better than the HR Bithead for 1/4 of the cost.
