Which Media Player On Windows?

I am another fan of J.River Media Center. I do extensive amounts of library and playlist management, and JRMC has everything I need. I tried foobar a while ago and didn't really care for it.

From reading all the replies in this thread it sounds like foobar may be a bit intimidating for someone just starting out. Would you say jump in anyway or should I begin with a simpler player like JRMC or Media Monkey?

I need to ask a dumb question. I see you're using a Musiland Monitor 01 USD. I just connected a Musiland 02 US sound card and successfully installed the USB drivers on my PC running Windows 7 (64 bit). I'm going to be using it to convert the signal from USB to SPDIF out to my DAC which is connected to my preamp via RCA cables. The next thing I need to do is install and configure a media player such as J.River, correct?

A quick question about foobar; do your files need to be in FLAC or some other lossless format to support WASAPI or ASIO ?

Nope! WASAPI and ASIO works regardless of which codec the audio is encoded with.

Well I seen J.River wasn't free so I downloaded and installed Foobar then copied WASAPI .dll file into the components folder after finding a little guide HERE

I have just now got my PC playing music for the very first time! I've got all my gear connected and foobar is playing "Black Gives Way To Blue" by Alice In Chains. It sounds fantastic! Its a little after 5:00 AM and I want to crank it up, but I can't (others are asleep).

So is there any guides/tutorials that y'all can suggest that will help with general use, customization and tips/tricks to get me and other foobar noobs up to speed?

The Hydrogenaudio Forums is a good place to start.

What's the difference between them?

I'm unable to get Foobar2000 to work with the Wasapi plugin. I think it's because Wasapi doesn't import to me as .dll file, and Foobar components won't import it. So, I'm going with J.River with it's built-in Wasapi. I was previously using CDex, no ASIO or Wasapi. The J.River w/Wasapi sounds amazing.

You need to unzip the file and extract the .dll file. I tried to extract it to the Foobar components folder and it wouldn't let me. So I extracted it to a folder I use for all my downloads and then I copied the file and pasted it into the components folder. Windows 7 warned me I need to be an administrator but just clicked continue an the file was added, no problem.

I was going to try J.River but seen it wasn't freeware so I frigued I'd give Foobar a shot, first. Foobar w/Wasapi sounds amazing.

Well thanks, although there are literally hundreds if not thousands of threads and easily over ten thousand replies. Where does one start in there? Good grief.

Like already I have noticed that my regular computer speakers no longer work on any web content since I've configured foobar. I'd be lost trying to find the answer in there. I mean maybe I'd find it and I'll give it a go, but I was looking for more of a guide/tutorial on basic setup, general use, perhaps some lite customization and maybe a few tips/tricks to get me and other foobar noobs up to speed. I'm not so sure Hydrogenaudio Forums is a good place for that. From what I seen when I stepped in there, it looks to be more for experienced users.
