So which headphones are best for bass extension? I don't mean BOOM, I mean accurate balanced bass.

The headphones I have listened to are SR60, DT770, HD600, ESP950, SR202, yamaha YHD-2. I prefer the YHD-2 for bass.

Denon AH-D7000s...sound like the bass from my home theater! The best bass I have ever heard. Strong, deep, controlled with detail and does not overpower the mids. Just AWESOME, IMHO.

Accurate, well controlled bass that extend all the way down.

I haven't got the 900's yet, but my 750's are pretty good.

My modded D5000 was the benchmark for me until I got the Edition 8's. Really great bass in quality, depth and extension.

Kinsale,

Glad you are loving the YHD-2..was a hard decision to let it go.

Regarding well defined bass, check out the Fostex T10, Yamaha YH-100, Yamaha HP-50 among other orthos which will give you what you crave. the newer HE-5 ortho is quite good too, though you don't get the super low rumble that you get with the YH-100.

Cheers,
Sachu

Ultrasone Proline 750 has great bass extension. Bass is definetly on the strong side so there is some boom, but it is not bloated and it also goes very deep.

I'd have ditto this one. I haven't the pleasure of testing the others, but I think I'll stop with my Markl-Modded D7000s. The Senn 650s, though quite deep, seem a bit sloppy now. The Grado GS1000s, IMHO, don't match it either.

Same here... I have just finished listening to Mauro Picotto's "Komodo" single... and it brought back some nice memories of my disco days in year 2000. The bass was so wonderful that it was like being there again...
