I know that headphones/IEMs play a big part but which DAP has the widest soundstage? In my opinion the widest soundstage of the DAPs that I own are on the Sony and Apple iPod DAPS.

Of all the players i have touch 3g has widest SS beating touch 4g as well. But SS on Sony a726 is best of all. Touch dosent really have any depth in SS when compared to most of the players. Sony A726 has best combo of depth & width while Sony E444 sux.

Anything with Rockbox.....you can customize it to your preferences.

Yeah, A few of my DAPs have Rockbox installed and the stereo wide function is cool. I happened to come across this video clip of BBC's science and technology show Tomorrow's World which did an experiment in 1991 with 3D stereo which spreads the stereo field. Take a look... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6u654y9vXI

With rockbox on my clip v2 setting stereo seperation to 250, i don't even hear a nano difference from default 0. For everything else rockbox does make significant changes though can be a sq degrade with some settings.

I bought my Sony A844 the moment I heard them. Their soundstage simply blew me away.

I have the A845 but it has the EU volume cap. does anyone know if the EU volume cap affects the soundstage on the Sony DAPs?

Not sure, im not in EU, but the Sonys with some IEMs will produce a very hollow feeling. Their sound is very very artificial to begin with.
