I've been looking around at extended warranties. I spent a good 3 days looking and so far only heard bad reviews about them (specifically the macks). It seems to me as if extended warranties aren’t worth it at all and that people dont really need them. I am curious to see which DAP has lasted the longest with you? Have you ever needed to use a warranty?

Thanks!

I cant tell about the current DAP's, but my iPod 3G which I bought about 2 years and 4 months back is still rocking after battery replacement, which means that this DAP is very strong... I think that the 5G iPod are the same...

btw, I'm new

2 apple ipod minis---both needed pre one year repairs(battery, click wheel)---both needed post one year repairs (click wheel, harddrive failure). One repair (under warranty)is costing me 2 weeks w/o a portable player.

Not sure how this compares to the rest of the industry.

First gen iPod, held on to it for nearly three years, gave it away to a friend. Still ticking.

My NJB3 is over three years old and going strong including the rechargeable batteries. I rarely use it as a portable, so it has not suffered the bumps and bruises of mobile use and is in excellent (like-new) condition. I got an extended warranty but have never used it.

My Nomad Zen got a dent in a little less than a year, then as the 1.5 year mark passed instability set in. I put it aside after for another half year , dragged it for a trip and then it started to not want to boot at all. I then dissected it and the hard drive died within a few months too ... though admittingly that might be because of a crappy enclsoure. My first remote was okay for a year and the other one had distortion from the start, so I admit that I just gave up.

I really wish i got an extended warranty for my 3G ipod, which broke down 4 times and finally a 5th time out of warranty. My 5G is a tank so far with no issues at all, but I have a Best Buy warranty on it just in case. 1911 has impressed upon me the importance of such a thing, especially since the warranty allows you to just pick up the latest model in the store (3 years from now!) if they no longer make the same model (which of course they won't, when it comes to the ipod).

I still have my first, a Rio Karma that's gone through 2+ years of use with no problems. Had a headphone jack problem with an H120, but that was replaced under manufactuer's warranty.

iRiver's iHP 140. No problems whatsoever. It looks pristine and acts this way after approximately two years of very heavy usage. Not a single scratch and the battery lasts like new (even running lossless through the optical out!). It will be hard for any other DAP to beat iHP 1xx series.
