Which current full size reference cans have the most accurate tonality with acoustic instruments?

From my experience, I'll go with D7000

Of the one's I've heard, my answer to the OP's question is the Ultrasone Pro 750. I have not heard the HD 800. The AKG K701 does not reproduce the actual sound of unaffected instruments (a situation where EQing and other artificial affects are not utilized) as well as the Ultrasone Pro 750, in my opinion.
I am frequently in the company of musicians and their instruments. I have never heard a headphone that more accurately reproduces the actual sound of musical instruments better than the Ultrasone Pro 750.
If there is a headphone that renders a better reproduction of musical instruments compared to the Pro 750, I definitely want to hear that headphone.

grokit,
Your comments here are absolutely true. If you want "proof" that grokit's comments are valid, try recording a Stradivarius played by a virtuoso.

My vote is for the T1s, although I haven't heard the HD800s. I can say that the T1 sounds more neutral and accurate than both the D7000s and the K702s on just about everything, not just acoustic tracks. Admittedly though, I daresay that I preferred the sound of the K702s on certain acoustic guitar tracks, though this wasn't for reasons of accuracy.

Definitely the HD800 and HE-5. Very realistic tone.

I think the HD600 is maybe the only in production headphone that gets tone right. I haven't heard the T1, but I felt the HD800 was way off. Didn't give them much of a chance though

But if you really want realistic tone, the Grado HP2 is the only one. I actually feel that it is a musical instrument, and not just a piece of gear because it is so faithful to the recording and the other gear.

I also feel that while the K240 Sextett lacks the refinement of other headphones, instruments are incredibly lifelike, and have a 3D tonal quality that is haunting, and which is why I think many head-fiers feel they disapear unlike other phones. It is sort of like every instrument has a micro-soundstage inside the macro-soundstage of the whole song. you can feel the bow on the violin, or the air passing through the trumpet.

yeah I think treble is their biggest weakness. But that tells me that timbre and tone is all in the midrange. they do vary a lot in sound, probably partly because they're so old. The pair I have now sounds quite a bit better than 3 other pairs I had.
