Hi everyone, it's been sometime and I need some advise here:

I need some good closed cans, now considering edition 9, because I don't know what else is better, (I don't like eletrostatics)

I used to own MS-PROs, K1000s (3 pairs of them), 770s, 880s, 990s etc, also had GS-1000s, K701s, RS-1s and some other ones experienced for extended period of time.

Currently I don't own any cans (only use some Bose QC3s, shhhhh..), and use some UE-11s when on the go, I gave my old E500s to my girlfriend.

So would anyone can advise me which closed cans can I use? I use generally for home computer sourced music, movie and very little gaming.

I would prefer something that easy to get, not those limited or out of production ones.

(haha finally found myself sutiable in this "high-end" area

The Ultrasone Pro 750's are close to the Ed 9's in SQ, and a lot less money. If you like the Ed 9 sound, you will like these. if you have never hear either, you must audition, because the sound is not for everyone.

I see you sold 770's. So that's a closed can you don't like. Have you considered Denon D2000s or D1000s? Very reasonable right now. The D1000 (actually D1001) is knocking right on the door of the D2000, SQ wise.

The D2000 is excellent all-around. I pefer the Pro 750 but many would not.

I have all these at my disposal and listen to them all the time -- this is first hand opinion I am giving you.

Note the Denons contain sound well but do not isolate at all -- these are two different attributes of closed cans.

If you have to buy without an audition, go for D2000. You will be happy.

One more thought -- the beyer 770's are now available thru the beyer MANUFAKTUR program on the main beyerdynamics web site in a 600 ohm consumer version (previously you had to buy the pro version to get 600 ohms -- too tight a headband!). I have not heard the 770/600's, but I have directly A/B'd the 880/250's vs the 880/600's, and the 600 ohm version is a totally different, totally better HP!

So the 770/600 might be the ticket, even though you have rejected 770's before.

If you liked the 770's but wanted a smoother overall freq response, get the 770/600's. If you have heard the Ultrasone sound and like it, get the Pro 750's or Ed 9's. Otherwise order the Denon D2000's.

Thank you wavoman!

I don't think will go back to Beyers again, I use to have way too many of them... how about other Denon models such as D7000s? I see there are some higher level models above D2000s.

My friend has a pair of Ultrasone HiFi-2000s, pretty old model but I kind like their sound....

BTW, any recommedantions for amps for Ed9 or Denons?

thanks for quick response!

I don't think the D7000s are available quite yet. There are the D5000s above the D2000s, and I believe that there are a host of people that modify them.

Have you checked out the Audio Technica woodies? The W5000 should be available, or you could search for the elusive ones like L3000/W11JPN/W10VTG/W2002.

This all depends on if you them to be truly closed or not. A lot of the headphones that are "closed" leak music out and noise in. The Ultrasones are one of the few that blocks all ambient noise and leaks very little.

Hmm, obviously depending on what you want from a pair of closed headphones (like what number1sixerfan mentioned), the JVC HP-DX1000 might be worth looking at. Some may argue that they are FTOM, like the Denon D5000 were, but they are still worth considering.

Yea, I forgot about them as well. I still have yet to try them. It would be nice to try them out.

There are quite a few options available, like:

- Ultrasone PROline 750, HFI-780 (w/ a re-cable): You shoul audition before buying. I am not mentioning the Ed9 since I have not heard them.
- Denon D2000 and D5000. IMO the MarkL mod brings them to a whole new level.
- AT W1000 or W5000.

Of the ones listed I am very partial to: D5000 w/ the MarkL mods, the HFI-780 w/ APureSound V3 re-cable, and AT W1000.

Good luck.

I forgot to mention the ones I own. Damn It!!
:faceplam:

I would however definately recommend them, even though they are pretty much hated by a lot over here. But then I am partial.

Also two new closed cans are about to be released, The Ultrasone Pro 900, and the Denon D7000. They both might also be worth a look when they are released.

Ahhh... all those high-end headphones...Hopefully, I dont find myself to be comfortable spending that much of money on headphones anytime soon. As it is now, I'm stretchig my budgets... sigh... There are things better to be left in the dark....

Good luck on your purchase.

I have a pair of the JVC/Victor HP-DX1000 and they are simply amazing.

You won't want to pry 'em off your head.

if you sold your K1000 because of comfort's issue, then i don't think you should buy the edition 9 because the phone isn't comfortable at all.
Go for audio technica headphone such as ATH-W5000 or ATH-AD2000
