I'm an engineer. I had a massive Lego collection as a child. I prefer the iPod.

I will not talk about the Iriver as I dont have one, nor have I ever been able to review one. A great thing with Ipods and Rio Karmas is the Database. As long as your Mp3 files have proper ID3 tags then the Database will be a great addition.

All my mp3 files are ID3 tagged and at 192/CBR/VBR

Great ID3 tag editor. I used to use till I started getting from the start properly tagged mp3 files at 192, now days they are mostly at VBR :p

http://www.download.com/TagScanner/3...ml?tag=lst-0-1

Download by clicking here or there

It is freeware

You can set your file names after your ID3 or your ID3 after your file names so if you have tons of

tracknumber - artistsname - songtitle.mp3 then you can set your id3 to look for the first info and state that a spacelinespace seperates the info and the next info is the artistsname, ect...you get the point

I agree on that and might add that the support in mp3tag´s forum is one of the best/fastest and friendliest I ever encountered: I had a little problem due to a fault using some new EAC-configuration files. The developer of mp3tag helped out at once and created a new little function which he included into a developer´s build of his software within a few hours

When it comes down to including cover art though Yasmin should give Helium2 a try (currently vers. 1.8, version 2 coming out soon). Only drag: It´s not free- but shareware (35$)...

Sorry for quoting myself, but I just realized, that there are two different programs out there - both which are called "mp3tag". So just to put this straight: I am referring to the one in version 2.24 (m). Think that is the one kunwar spoke of too, since it is the one which is freeware. The other one (mp3tag version 4.2 is shareware).

Well, as you can see from the pic above.
I have opened up the Apple Ipod box and returned the Iriver.

It doesn't necessarily mean the iriver is an inferior product.
I just feel what I want it for and that is to listen to high quality music
that's well organised via a database controlled by well thought
out software/hardware interface as iTunes / Click wheel.

I don't regret it one bit, I haven't even read the instructons and
I'm up and running with things. Now when I listen to music I
appreciate the artist more, rather than just mp3 files/folders!
It's hard to explain but I think you'll understand if you ever use a database
rather than dumping files/folders from one place to another.

I didn't think the ipod would be as sophisticated as it is, from the point of
"feather touch" gliding your finger across the wheel to drop the volume down,
to the stress free process of sending mp3s to the Ipod.

This is easily one of the best presents I have ever received and recommend any
guy / gal to check it out. I definetly need a Lajo Ice Skin to cover it up!

Now to drop hints that I need an Apple Mac G5 for my next Birthday.....

Thank you all for your help. It been an educational experience in Head-Fi.

Regards, Yasmin

The way you put it Yasmin, the iPod seems like the only logical choice. And I think i've changed my mind again and might just buy one already. The simplicity factor is really enticing. I think i've ruled out the iRiver completely at this point. At one time it seemed like the only way to go, but after hearing about the iAudio, I think that is the one that is the hottest on the iPods trail. So it's a toss-up between those two for me. FM will be nice for NPR and also being able to record will be great. And the cool thing about voice recording is that if you ever have an idea for a song you can just hum it or sing it into the player so you don't forget it and flesh it out later. So I like that.

Great picture by the way. What kind of camera are you using? Also, Aphex Twin is great music. One last thing, what kind of canal phones are those? They look cool. Are those custom pads? The reason I ask is because I'm actually thinking of getting a pair. Do they isolate very well for rides on the train etc?

the M3 is not hot on the trail of the Ipod without a screen on the main body there's no way it will ever even come close to the Iriver or the Ipod.

Yasmin,

I am amazed that you were able to resist the temptation to open a box earlier! I could never resist that long; weighing the pros and cons, reading the feedback - ever so patiently.

Good luck. I believe you will be happy and will continue to feel you made the best choise.

Have a great listening weekend.

The camera is a Canon EOS 10D, as heavy as a bag of sugar, but takes
wonderful photo's. The earphones are Shure E2c's with standard foam sleeves,
they're wonderful value for money. But annoying to stick in and out of my ears.
(might be considering entry level Grado's).
They provide really good isolation(and sound) much better than the silicone
sleeves which are a waste of time.

Beautiful! Do you have upgradeitis yet for the EOS 20D?

Good choice on the ipod, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
