I'm absolutely certain, now, that I'm getting a pair of RS-1s - so, of course, I must ask the inevitable question of which amp to spoil myself with. I have a ~$1000 budget, and I'm looking at everything from Singlepower to WooAudio.

Singlepower Extreme.

This amp is a favorite and unlike most OTL tube amps this amp is awesome with low impedence headphones. In fact, my favorite headphones on this amp are the Alessandro MS2i and the current thirsty AKG 701. With a little different tube combo the Senn 595 and 600 sound just as good as always with the 600, in particular, having a big spacious soundstage and a beautiful tonality. As soon as an adapter arrives I have some K1000's to audition on the Extreme.

This amp is surprisingly compact too, given the amps prodigious power output, at 12" wide x 9" deep.

Just curious, but how much is the Extreme? It would seem as though Singlepower hasn't updated their site in some time, because, currently, they only list the PPX3 / 6SN7, the MPX3, the Supra, and the Maestro as being available for sale.

MAD Ear+ Purist HD.

Base cost is only $630 shipped.

For $80 more, you can upgrade to Black Gate caps.

With the remaining money, you can go crazy with customiziation. Lloyd at MAD is very easy to work with, and can probably customize the amp in any way you see fit.

If you want, you can use any remaining money from your $1,000 budget to send to me as a 'thank you' for suggesting the MAD Ear+ Purist HD.

Conversely with the left over money, you can buy some new CDs, some decent (yet affordable) interconnects, such as those made by Blue Jeans cables, and a decent (yet affordable) power cord such as a Volex 17604 for the MAD. Also decent (yet affordable) power conditioner/surge supressor such as Monster PC1000 to plug everything into and perhaps some TTVJ flat pads to compliment the bowl pads.

Good luck.

How about a RSA Raptor, I listened to GS1000 with them and it was devine.

I know the MAD amp is highly recommended and I'd agree but also worth a look is the Yamamoto HA-02. If I had to choose between the 2 I'd take the Japanese amp. No worries about having to get expensive NOS tubes either as the 408as are cheap and going by Mr Yamamotos specs, very long lifed as well.

X2. The Raptor is on my wish list. Such a sweet sound with my RS1s.
