Where to start with DIY Amp design...

Hey,

in the near future I'll have to decide for a subject for a task for school. I thought it would be cool to build a (headphone) amplifier but I will have to design the circuit myself. Since I don't know anything at all about electronics and that kind of stuff I wondered if you could give me some advice as where to start?
I want to keep the budget below 60 euro and it must not be too difficult. I do have some soldering and other DIY skills to build the amp but my main problem is learning how to design it.

I didn't mean to build a excisting amp, I really have to design the circuit myself otherwise it'll be fraud and my project will be marked insufficient...
