I ordered some parts for my Cmoy from the US and had to pay a lot afterwards.
Whats the experience with amps (especialy RSA amps)?

Its a gamble. I've had stuff sent through, like my Alien DAC that didn't get caught. Other stuff did. Don't ask companies to de-value the item on the postage receipt, they won't do it and it causes friction.

There is really no way of telling if it's going to get pulled over, but always expect it to, and the budget for it so it's not a nasty shock when the item turns up.

Changed now, everything gets taxed.

You can try using a courier.

My $300 ESW9s from Nippon-land got whacked £40.

Ray put a value of $40 on the Customs declaration, so I ended up paying an additional £11.03 VAT (based on some peculiar algorithm) and £6.80 FedEx admin charge. The overall cost ended up near £300 for the Predator, shipping and the VAT

Not quite. $300 = £150 roughly.

A third of that is £50...nearly. Parcelforce decided to keep them until I'd paid.

With my A900s I got an invoice later.

Yeah a lot, my MicroDAC was about that too.

they seem to have calculated the import tax based on the declared value (luckily this was a bit less than the purchase price) plus the shipping charge and it looks as though headphone amps qualify for a particularly high charge. I didn't pay a lot more import tax for some AH-D2000s from Japan which were declared at full value by Audio Cubes, so I'm guessing (I'm sure the info is available, just can't be bothered to look) that headphones attract a lower rate of tax than amps.

It is a lot, doesn't make importing too appetising, if you've a budget.

Fortunately I do not give a hoot, £40 is neither here nor there to me. Doesn't mean I'll randomly paypal people money!

I do care about the speed of delivery, my mother thinks I'm impatient. Thing is though, if I've the choice[and it is reasonable] I'll likely go for the fastest delivery...so I do spend more and expect it to be quick.
