So I've found some DSD's on hdtracks and aucsticsound.. but still finding severe shortage of "popular" music in DSD.

Was watching youtube review () of Legend X iems and reviewer mentioned having DSD of 2pacs all eyez on me .. how is this possible? Upsampling?

Upsampling is not really possible; DSD uses a different algorithm to code and decode music.

Ultimately, the answer to your comment, "So I've found some DSD's … but still finding severe shortage …" is yeah, so what? There are a lot of things hard to find and hard to get. Usually, there's a reason: the marketplace does not exist for it. So, shortages will persist.

The real question is why isn't there a marketplace for it? Sometimes there's a good reason, sometimes there's not. I guess I'm not one of those who believe DSDs are somehow "better." I'd rather pursue high-resolution PCM than DSD. I've tried both. My personal opinion is that arguing for bettering current PCM quality is a more fruitful pursuit than DSD. Many (if not most) DSD recordings were actually made using PCM and converting. The lineage is so confusing in some instances that if you think you hear something "better" or "more air," it could only be the byproduct of the conversion somewhere along the line.

There is almost 40 years of PCM history and development that's taken place. Only recently have efforts been made to pursue increasing the resolution and sampling rate for measurable improvements. Even then, there are naysayers. DSD is almost a snipe hunt, by comparison.

True true-- I'd even take hi-res pcm of alot of popular songs - but seems like they are only at 16/44

I got virtually all my DSD from ripping SACDs... I haven't seen a source otherwise.

What's worse is that some artists are beginning to release in only vinyl and mp3. I believe CDs are eventually available in these cases, but sometimes several months later. The trend appears to be away from CD quality, not toward something of even higher quality.

We've got to fight that, somehow.

For sure mp3 is the wrong direction. But vinyl is probably good, they're likely doing a good job mastering. I suspect some SACDs or other high quality versions of vinyl will be available.

I haven't checked but I wonder if discogs will become a source for this kind of thing.
