My first "WOW" was with a Sennheiser HD424X in 1992-93, first step in high-end detail and musicality. The second one the little but very good Sony MDR-40 in 1994, my first pair of decent headphones, for their dynamic sound and good bass. The third was the Grado Sr-60, for their warm and timbrically correct sound and the last was the Beyerdynamic DT880. I had a big smile on my face sudden I put them on the head and listened.

April 2004

After years of poor-quality earbuds, I plumped for a pair of SR-80s after hearing them demo-ed at a dealership. He put on "Nevermind" (what a great record, 14 years on, btw!) and Kurt's vocal and Dave's taut drumming underpinned by Kris' fluid bass blew me away! There was a similar effect when I got my HD650s listening to Norah Jones.

Yeah i just listened to that song with my E5c's and i see what you are saying it just sounds amazing. I haven't heard a headphone handle a song like that this well. Just for kicks i think i am gonna take a listen with my sony street styles later and have a good laugh. Hey what bit rate did you have the song encoded at? Enjoy.

My first "real" headphones that i have ever owned are my HD280's that I got about 6 months ago. Whenever I listen to Heaven by DJ Sammy I just completly taken in by the song and it is just so weird. It is like the whole world is gone and it is just me and the music. I never imagined that headphones could sound so good until I got my 280's.

I think my real first headphone Ah-ha - OMG was the Bang & Olufsen FORM1. The standard was then set.

I think they got mangled during a move, or the girlfriend "adopted" them, I don´t remember. Anyway, years later, next pair was a HD565 Ovation, and then I learn that headphone´s are seriuos Hi-Fi.

My first WOW experience was a few years ago. I wasn't really into music at that time and I was in for a 1 and a 1/2 hour bus ride up to my teens camp. I was with my friends and one of them let me borrow his walkman.
I stuck his earbuds into my ears and listened to RHCP. What I heard was AMAZING! I closed my eyes and felt the music resonate from the inside of my head as if I was at their concert. I felt that music and it sounded SOOO good. I just felt... "WOW". It made me listen to music again and I haven't turned back since

I guess no one else owns canalphones, or i guess they just don't sound as good as their full sized which they shouldn't. I just guess i like extreme portability. Well if there is anyone else out there that had a WOW experience with canalphones it would be interesting to hear about. I know the sensas were mentioned in this thread atleast once. Any one else?

My first headphone wow was actually with a pair of stock buds that came with my creative NX, i listed to them and they sounded better than anything i had ever heard from a headphone. After thati started careing about SQ, and then got some sony top of the line street styles, and then i found head-fi and got some really good headphones

For me it was when I went in to audition a pair of SR225's and then got the opportunity to listen to the RS-1's. Ella and Satch sounded great over the RS-1's. Needless to say the rest is history as I've been a happy owner with the RS-1's in my rig ever since.
