is it price at what the hd800 is price at now ?

i'm not familiar with headphone and audio gears back then , hence this question.

I think in Europe the hd650 were at like 300 or 350 euro at their release.
In the us it seems their msrp was $499.

Nope it wasnt, HD 800 are bit overpriced (bit too much overpriced considering they seem to sound like just a lot improved AKG 701).

Tough, Ive seen a shop selling it for 1200 USD (converted from my currency). Which isnt much better.. but still.

I wonder what the general attitude was towards, say the HD600, or HD580 when it first came out. They are highly praised and they've been out for a long time! I wasn't into hi-fi at that time

On Tyll's blog he recounts he seeing Sennheiser working on the HD800 in 2005/06. I don't know the industry too well, but it seems to me that they're a relatively heavy R&D phone, Sennheiser had to develop that ring radiator and make it work.
