Isn't Audio-Technica about due for a new limited edition headphone? Anyone hear anything?

It's due the same time as the HD700.

A950LTD isn't really a new headphone - not because it shares anything with the A900LTD, but because it's not really marketed in Japan. Seems some sort of random one-off for the Asia ex-Japan market.

I don't think we're looking at an upgrade to the woodies this year. W5000 is too fresh for an upgrade. Dunno if we might get something nifty next year though (seems new woodies come near the end of the year usually).

Might be something coming on the AD series though, but that's random speculation on my part... and audio-technica has kept busy on the usual consumer level stuff.

Best,

-Jason

Well I was thinking more along the lines of a high-end woody such as the L3000.

You mean "leathery?"

You know, they don't have to come out with a woody every few years.
Wasn't the W2002 released in 2002? Only been what, 4 years?

Just ask yourself when the next R10 will be released.

Actually, for a long time, new woodies did come out every year.

R10, on the other hand, had a decade+ lifespan.

There aren't that many woodies from AT. Sure they had the most woodies produced but still not that many. And they were anniversary things, weren't they? Not like "hey, it's our 30th anniversary! I guess next year is our 31st anniversary so we'd better get ready!" kinda thing. Cause that wouldn't make them so special. As PsychoZX said, we are referring to AT woodies.

Well, I could be wrong about the AT woody line as the timeline of woodies are too much of a bother to find.

And besides, there are other woodies that come out from different companies. Personally, I wasn't WOW'D by the AT woodies.

*Blank expression for a few seconds* Haha, yes we are referring to ATWs both ATOWs and ATNWs. A few of the ATOWF members have been following things quite closely. The list of ATWs is like this:

1997.12.01 - ATH-W10LTD - 30th Anniversary
1998.12.01 - ATH-W11JPN
1999.12.01 - ATH-W100
2000.12.01 - ATH-W11R
2001.10.21 - ATH-W2002 - 40th Anniversary
2002.11.21 - ATH-W1000
2003.11.14 - ATH-L3000G
2003.11.21 - ATH-L3000
2004 - No woodie released.* Continues to sell L3000.
2005.12.02 - ATH-W5000

Please note the magic 21st.

Yup, pretty much every year except last year, and thus the question posed in this thread.

No I mean woody. The L3000 is still technically a woody since the earcups are made of wood. They were just covered in leather for looks.

Wasn't there some hype last year about AT releasing a new flagship anniversary phone this year?

w5000's are new, but it would be nice to see an improvement...seems that many people feel the older woodies are better

Oh, wow! I had never thought of the "Leatherhead" being secretly a woody. You learn something new every day.
