Well it's actually become one of my "reference" recordings. If a system makes this record unbearable then that system isn't for me. I want to be able to play 100% of my recordings on my "hifi" not 50 or 60%.

BTW "Is this it" sounds great on my Beyer 990's.

Actually, it was my understanding that they purposefully went "back to basics" "old school" to try to make a statement about how much more important the music is than the production.

Was that their official statement before or after they heard the final mix?

I think they used that same rationale for their MTV video (after they saw it played once

My favourite allbum for 2001 has to be "Polichinelle" by The Prayer Boat. Excellent record.

Cyrus Chestnut "Soul Food"

Cyrus just keeps getting better and better. I thought that Chick Corea's Trio had a chance as my year's best, but Cyrus wins.

I also liked PJ Harvey's latest.

Either Pete Yorn - Music for the Morning After or Zero 7 - Simple Things

Well.....I liked several from this year, including:

Morning View - Incubus
Hybrid Theory - Linkin Park
Amnesiac - Radiohead

but the overall topper....by a large margin....

Lateralus, by Tool. Eargasmic.

I bought the Pete Yorn CD on a recommendation a while back, but kind of forgot about it. I just started listening to it last week, and it's really great!

I did not list Coldplay - Parachutes because I thought it came out in 2000, but an excellent CD.
